Kanye West's Mom Shocked on How much he spends on....

I think the fear is that one day, this will become more of a hackneyed "do what I say, not what I do" campaign for the positive rap genre. While the issue over Kanye's pornography archive (500 dollars isn't a stash, it's an archive) seems somewhat contrived, it does speak to a larger concern about how these positive rappers present themselves. The catch with Kanye specifically is that Jesus Walks received a great deal of praise, possibly premature, from Christian groups who were pleased that he was willing to acknowledge a religious theme in his music. Even further, he also received a great deal of praise, amid controversy, from secular groups for his boldness and his willingness to stand as a vanguard of positive rap. As a result, when embarassing details come out about his personal life, it's not as easy to shrug off as he would like to.

Cozmo makes a good point concerning focusing on teachings rather than the teacher, but oftentimes, a living example is far more powerful than the words he or she speaks, especially for young people. Young people are more realily apt to act on what they see rather than what they hear. At the very least, it creates a sense confusion... should a person heed what is said, or what is done.

Now all this doesn't directly relate to Kanye's situation per se. He's not going around rapping about how others shouldn't buy pornography and buying it himself, but it does bring up the topic Tim addressed; in general are these positive rappers going to live the way they encourage others to live in their music. They may see themselves as only entertainers, but a lot of people take them more seriously and look at their lives more closely than they may expect.

I know for a fact, that it is not true.

Carlton: You mean your a virgin too?

Will: Shhhh! Keep your voice down. Hey!, I ain't no virgin!... When it comes to me and the honeys, man I just say (*a precher walks up*) da, eww, ugh, yucky. One day the right girl's gonna come along and, you won't be a german forever.

Carlton: Good, cuz I'm really looking foward to losing my accent.

thanx FuQ, that made me smile

true dat Ted i done it too (porn) and all the other teens i know have had sex. i think i'm the only virgin in the world sometimes. i admit i've sinned but at the same time, i've never smoke anything, never drank anything. i admit i've sinned and i think Kanye can do it too, but the issue for me is why is he talking about Jesus if he's a porn addict? or is his Jesus different than the Jesus i associate with?

me personally, i don't suscribe to any one religion right now tho i've been raised a Christian and committed to God i've lost interest in it and i don't know what i want to believe yet.

word up, virgin right here!!! I'm not ashamed. I probally wouldn't be right now but all my friends know these ugly-@ss girls. And my school isn't any better at getting good looking girls.

Also, I have smoked ciggarettes and I have done weed (only once though), never got drunk, but my uncle grows grapes for people who make wine so I have drank wine, and of course at church.

Finially, :word: on not suscribing to any religion, I've been baptized, but I'm more along the lines of just respecting each religion.

thanx man, i guess we do have some stuff in common. it's like my parents try to make me Christian by taking me to Church every Sunday but i'm young and i just want to grow up and make my own decision. i do believe in God/Jesus tho and i have been raised with the same values that are often mentioned in the Bible.

good point :word: but if they admit their flaws I got no problem.. all i'm saying is be honest  I just think there is too much music out there that isn't very genuine

I agree and I see your point. Because of the dire lack of music with any substance or integrity, when people do find some they tend to expect perhaps a bit too much from the artist. Having been an artist for so long I tend to forget that sometimes. You and I see it all the time with PM Dawn, and how people are often taken aback to find that Prince Be is not really some rapping reincarnation of Buddha, he's just a talented everyday brutha with deep thoughts and exceptional writing skills.

Frankly, I've been in this business for so long that I expect humanity at every turn. They're all human you know, every one of them. Not one of them is working for free either. When you come to this realization, you learn to appreciate the music even more, because a good song is immortal. Anything that can move or inspire you so much both emotionally and physically, and perhaps even spiritually...simply by hearing it...is truly amazing. The fact that it came from a flawed, tarnished individual shouldn't sully that.

True that! Those who would seek to lead through their songs, especially if they reach out to the young, have a responsibility to lead by example as well. I would put KRS and Chuck D as well as others in that category, and have found reason to fault KRS for falling short in the past. I do draw a line between leading and teaching though, and frankly I haven't seen much evidence of Kanye West doing either.

I was wondering if cozmo d is the cozmo d from newclues Jam on it.One more thing about Kanye though. To say he portrays himself as positive.I don't think it makes him a bad or negative person because he watches porno.I happen to be a very kind treat people with respect easy to get along with person.I don't think the fact that I watch porn diminishes that in any way. That's just what I like to indulge in as man now it maybe be different for Kanye because he's in the spotlight and I'm Not,but i don't think he's a horrible person cause he watches porno.I'm defending kanye as a man not an artist.I don't own any of his albums so I'm really not a fan of his I'm defending him as a man cause that's what he is before anything else.I'm out like the Yankess Peace :pony:

Yeah we still do shows and tour together. We don't work on music as much together anymore, but that may change soon. Lady E and I will be doing a show in Gloucester, England this Saturday, and all of us will be performing in Palm Springs, CA on the 19th of November. There's a possibility that we'll be on a 32 city tour next year.

The ironic thing is that, I'm willing to bet, the majority of modern rappers live "better" lives than they rap about. Kids probably would be better off seeing those rappers real lives rather then listening to their music.

I used to argue that very point to rappers that I worked with back in the '90s, when the NY thug rap scene was at it's peak. Every rhyme these cats would drop would be about drug dealing and shooting and killing, and when I took them to task on it they claimed that they were "keeping it real". I would point out that not one of them lived that sort of reality EVERY FRIGGIN DAY!!! So why the hell is it in every friggin rhyme???

Now if you wanna know the epitome of contradictory, look at Mase, he retires from rap to become a preacher and talks about how he wants to clean up the rap game when he came back but after his album flopped hecomes back now and signs with G-Unit, the ones that're polluting the rap game the most. :hmm: At least Kanye hasn't gone that far yet and he does do songs about girls just like JJFP do: "Golddiger", "Slow Jams", "Breathe In, Breathe Out", "Workout Plan", etc., so I guess it's ok for him to fantasise about women if it's ok if JJFP had groupies right? Kanye wouldn't be called a conscious rapper like he is if he didn't release "Jesus Walks" as a single, it's only one song, that'd be like if Will released "The Rain" I guess people would call him a conscious rapper too.
