Music and Hollywood elite have lined up to invest millions in the Brooklyn-based beauty products line, Carol’s Daughter according to CNN/Money.

Will Smith, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Jay-Z are amongst a few of the big-named investors who have invested a total of $10 million dollars in the new business endeavor and have plans to take the company nationwide.

Additional investors include record executive and organizer Steve Stout, Interscope Records chief Jimmy Lovine, Andrew Farkas and Tommy Mottola and his wife, Latin recording artist Thalia.

Pinkett-Smith, wife of Will Smith, will serve as the face of the product through a nationwide advertising campaign.

I'm not sure if I like this. I'd rather have them be musical partners instead of this? Why? Because this is just adding to "Hip-hop commercialism". and now asking for a clothing line? Come on, they are both loaded rappers Will and Jay-Z. Why do they need more and more to keep getting more and more money? Keep it real and just stick to music and both for FP.

investing in a company isn't gonna only benefit Will and Jay, especially when it brings more attention to the company. The beauty line mostly goes after African-American women, so this will help their sales too. I wouldn't say it's a selfish tactic only to make more money for Will and Jay. Hey, it's 2 strong, black males makin money in the business world. More power to them. If it was only about the music, Will or Jay wouldn't be as successful as they are today. Will made movies and did TV, now he's an international superstar. Jay was just a rapper, who then got into clothing, shoes (the fastest selling Reeboks), now he's a CEO and part time owner of the Nets.

Yes I think so, too! But I don't understand, I don't think that these two will eva be good friends or somethin', they'll talk and all that but won't eva be really good friends or so, u know! But a pity that is because it'd be really cool, I think but it is what it is, so no problem for me! :afro:

Well this could be a good move, I'm not a big fan of Jay-Z' music but I admire his hustle as a buisiness man, you can't just live off of making albums, it's good to endorse yourself, and he obviously respects Will for being a smart buisinessman too, this could be a nice movement for hip-hop here! :thumb:

There's nothing wrong with commercialism in and of itself... Let me reiterate... there is nothing wrong with commercialism in and of itself.

We have to realize that the true problems arise when commercialism and material things overshadow an artist's music. When those things become more important than the pure music and an artist's expression of themselves through music... that's when we need to start worrying. Will has been rapping for 20 years, and it has never been about the money for him. When he started his movie career, it wasn't about the money... If he were someone who was concerned about that sort of thing, he would have stopped rapping long ago and focused solely on his movie career. If Will were to start or join in a partnership with someone to create a clothing line or engage in some other business endeavor (which he has done in the past)... it follows that it still would not be about the money... I don't think we'll ever have to worry about Will rapping about his FP sneakers or his summer jean collection. He's always kept it real and will continue to do so. Real talk.

The comment about a clothing line was really in jest... but what if he were to start a clothing line? All I see is an alternative to all the foolishness we see coming out now, a lot of possibilites and some good looking clothes... no harm, no foul... I highly doubt such a thing would overshadow his love and respect for hip hop or that for film.

In addition, there's no reward in life for limiting yourself and thinking one dimensionally... New things have to be tried and you have to keep setting goals for yourself or else life can get monotonous and become boring very quickly.
