Behind-the-scenes footage leaked on the Web is for a film set to premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September

Jay-Z and Kanye West collaborated with each other — and then joined forces with Will and Jada Pinkett Smith.

A source tells us the “Watch the Throne” documentary, which partially leaked onto the Internet Aug. 8, will be produced by Overbrook Entertainment, the Smiths’ production company. According to the insider, the film, which will give fans a look at the highly successful album’s recording process, is set to premiere in full at the Toronto Film Festival on Sunday, Sept. 9.

The Smiths are confirmed to attend, we’re told, although it’s up in the air if Jay-Z or West will show. Neither is confirmed at this point.

The source, however, says backers are “confident West will be there,” despite the event being smack in the middle of New York Fashion Week. It’s uncertain what the mercurial rapper is planning for that event, especially considering that his lady friend, Kim Kardashian , has a meet-and-greet planned for Fashion’s Night Out on Sept. 6 in Manhattan at Lord & Taylor.

Jay-Z’s partnership with the Smiths on the “Watch the Throne” documentary is exciting, but far from surprising.

In January 2011, Overbrook Entertainment announced a partnership with Hova for a big-screen remake of the American musical classic “Annie,” starring Will and Jada’s daughter, Willow , who is signed to Jay’s label Roc Nation. The announcement also included a vague promise about future film projects with the music mogul.

“The Overbrook Entertainment family and I have a unified vision,” Jay-Z said. “This venture into film development and production is a perfect next step with teams that are accomplished, creative and innovative.”

In the clip that hit the Web last week, fans caught a glimpse of Jay-Z’s wife, Béyoncé , some moments in the studio and a surprising rap session that Australian actor Russell Crowe was invited to attend.

The clip was filmed partially on a Flip camera at times, and in it you can see the powerhouse rappers and Béyoncé on the grounds of the rented private estate in Sydney. The two principals are later seen working on tracks for the album. At one point, West presents buddy Jay-Z with a piece of art at the dinner table.

The documentary was directed by Robert Lopuski , who had teamed with West on his “Power” video. “Both Jay and Kanye felt that it was an important thing” to document, “so [Kanye’s manager] Don C called me up and invited me down,” Lopuski explained to MTV News about his involvement.

A spokeswoman for Jay-Z and a spokesman for West did not return requests for comment by deadline.
