Least Favourite/Annoying Will Smith Songs

O.K., all of us on here have one thing in common: We love Will Smith/JJFP, right?

Well, differing slightly from the usual "praiseworthy" posts that we like to make, I thought I'd ask everyone: Which are the songs that you don't really like listening to by the Philly rapper?

I mean, these could be songs that you once loved when they were released, but over time they've gotten annoying.

Or they could quite simply be songs that "don't do anything for you".

I'll begin with a few examples of my own:

'Freakin' it':
Yeah, people might argue that Will is a very good "party rapper", and I agree. But 'FI' is has gotten to be incredibly corny in my mind. At the time of its release, it was fashionable for many to hate on Will Smith, and this track just seems like a pretty weak backlash to the "haters" in question. I just don't like it.

'La Fiesta':
An obvious experimentation in styles, this is one of the tracks I always skipped on Willenium. Doesn't work for me.

'Willow is a Player':
Gotta admit, this is just plain awful by Will's standards.

'Nod Ya Head (Black Suits Comin'):
Can't blame Will for wanting to cash in on the first MIB's success, but this is way below par.

Don't misinterprete -- I've got mad respect for Will -- and these are just a few examples from his huge catalogue of music that I just don't like.

Does anyone else have any examples?

I agree with Willow is a Player, La Fiesta. I dont like the beat of the Nod Ya Head song (the one used in his music video) But I do think the remix of Nod Ya Head is much better. Freakin it beat is not great, but Wills lyrics in Freakin It are ON POINT!

Once and for all lets get this straight, How you measure a rapper what make an MC great, Is it the sales? - 20mill Is it the cars? - Bentleys Is it the women? - Jada, Is it the money? - please, Mr. Clean yet the fact remain, Got girls that dont speak english screamin' my name, All you rappers yellin bout who you put in a hearse, Do me a favour write one verse without a curse!

Uh!

Tim is a big fan of "I Can't Stop."

I can't think of any I outright hate, but there's some that I think could have been better due to production or cutting out guest rappers. A lot of Willenium had this problem.

I like the beat for Da Butta but I'm not a fan of Lil' Kim.

Freakin' It was dope lyrically but we've heard this beat in different forms forever.

It took me a while to warm up to "Could U Love Me" because of the beat. It's not bad, I just don't think it fits the vibe of the album.

And I think I'll always have a bit of a problem with Switch because it got chosen over Tell Me Why as the first single. Probably a smart move, business-wise, but party tracks don't do it for me nearly as much as powerful songs with messages.

A couple of JJFP songs I definitely dislike ..."Then She Bit Me..." and "Guys Aint Nothing But Trouble"

As far as Will Smith "solo" stuff...I like the fast-paced lyrics of "La Fiesta" but that whole spanish vibe didn't fit on Willenium, clearly a "Miami" sequel and then again with "I Cant Stop"..

Willow is a Player and I Cant Stop I'm definitely not a fan of. Born to Reign just had so many flaws in general.

Agreed. But, like you say, music is a business. And that's part of the problem, I think.

I got the "Freakin' It" CD single recently and I agree that the lyrics on that tracks are some great quotables for hip hop heads but the production held it back, I like the house version much better, that shoulda been the original version and it'd been more of a hit....

As far as other songs I used to think "Maybe" was a kinda soft song for me but now that I've been getting closer to this girl I went to high school with it don't seem so soft anymore, haha...

Most here mentioned the songs already that I'm not really into, I agree that Columbia did the most part of ruining Will's image as an mc, the singles are clearly the worst songs on the solo albums, although I did like "Switch" from "lost and found" but even that album had stronger songs to be singles but that's the state of the music industry
