Jazzy Jeff Speaks On Reunion With Fresh Prince

“The problem is he's probably the biggest movie star on the planet. Being in that position, it doesn't make for a lot of time for music.”

Before Will Smith was regarded as being a hit-maker for the box office, the actor was known as the Fresh Prince and made noise, alongside DJ Jazzy Jeff, on the music side. Together, the duo were able to heat up music and put Philadelphia on the map.

The Philly scene now includes the likes of Beanie Sigel, Gillie the Kid, Cassidy and others that are complete opposites of the Fresh Prince, but they will always be recognized as the first to do it and watch it blow up in the mainstream.

Although their career choices have gone in two different directions, Jeff maintains that the relationship between the two hasn't been shaken in all of these years. During promotion for the recently released video game, DJ Hero, Jeff speaks on how everything has essentially fallen in place for the two.

“People don't realize about my relationship with Will is [that] this is exactly what we planned on doing. That's one of the things that we talk about more than anything. I remember when Will and I first got together, we kinda had a dream session and he was like, ‘You know what, I wanna do movies' and I was like, ‘Wow, I wanna do music' and I was like maybe I can do music for your movies.”

He added how the movie industry has been a factor as to why the two haven't been able to link up again musically, although they have made constant attempts.

“I think that a lot of the movie people hate when I come around because they know that I'm going to try to twist his arm to do some music. It's hard. He really wants to do it, but being one of the biggest movie stars on the planet, we'll talk about ‘Oh man, we wanna do this tour and go here' and then he'll call me and say ‘Hey, guess what? I was nominated for an Oscar. It's kinda like, ehh so much for the tour.”

Whatever the case may be, the DJ states that the two still have moments where they are in awe of where their careers have gone since the days of “Summertime”, but through it all, they have continued to remain level-headed to one another as friends and have sat in anticipation for the day where they can finally make their return.

Nice interview there, Will hasn't been making much movies lately though so I think there's more hope for a JJFP reunion to happen soon enough

It is recent...they mentioned DJ Hero which just came out. There are no nails in the JJ+FP coffin. I hope everyone is still visiting this board when they come back so I can say "I told ya so!!" :)

This sounds more promising that anything we've heard, as AJ said, its recent because its an interview during DJ hero promo. Its nice to know its still fresh in their minds. It'll happen one day, I have faith.

nah, i guess i have to be the pessimistic one in here. i just don't think we'll ever see a JJFP collabo ever again. look at jeffs head, his hair are falling off! they should've done a JJFP reunion album for their 20th anniversary. i don't wanna see a 50 year old man making a "fresh prince" return with his old pal. this is all so sad. they couldn't manage to make a reunion album in almost 20 years, so how can it be, after this success and demand that people have for Will's movies, that they're going to reunite in the near future? and don't forget about Will's lil "reality check" boy. nah it's way too late and besides that i'm sure we will only see a few gigs here and there. you too know how fast Will gave up on music when he got to know about the offer for The Pursiut of Happiness. Just before that it was all about making music and touring around the world for the next 8 months, his passion for his first love and so on... i think it's just one of those nice trips down memory lane, some sort of flashback which keeps you more and more motivated. it's just all talk for me now. they did He's the DJ in two weeks and can't reunite for a new album?

I don't care what anybody says i believe there will be a new album and a tour it's just a matter of time.. it's good to here whenever they get together they talk about music i'll be happy with just one more album and a tour.

The good thing the news has created some kind of buzz, but in general I don't believe in a reunion. Both are too old now, I think we can be happy when they work on a soundtrack together.
