LL Cool J vs Canibus

Recommended Posts

This is something I had to put together for you guys coz for me this is THE greatest battle of all time! LL Cool J vs Canibus.

This is it...from start to end with some of the bits you may not have heard before so hopefully I'm bringing you an exclusive! Me and Ted have gone back and forth with this MANY times but I truly believe Canibus did not start this! I've been meaning to do this for the board for literally years but never got round to it. Definitely for me the best and most exciting battle there has been!

There were a lot of great battles in rap...i don't think there is such thing as best battle or GOAT.

LL Cool J vs. Canibus

Nas vs. Jay-Z

Westside Connection vs. Common

NWA vs. Ice Cube

LL Cool J vs. Ice-T, Kool Moe Dee and MC Hammer

And back to LL vs. Canibus...i also think LL started it, because he misinterpreted Canibus verse, who was actually an LL fan. Canibus won the battle, but lost the war!

LL definitly started it, his ego got a head of him and he took what was admiration as disrespect.

Anyone remember the Lord Finesse vs Percee P battle?... Thats one of my favourites.

LL vs Can I Bus is definitly a contender for the GOAT!

Honestly. Canibus can spit and he can spit hard. It kinda fell in LL's favor because he obviously was more popular at the time. I think LL def took it way to far cause Canibus was praising him by the mic off your arm comment. The Ripper Strikes Back and Back Where I Belong are dope tracks. Whenever I talk about this with my friends I say LL won because he had one line that just killed Canibus. It was close but LL won in my book.

"..ask Canibus, cause he aint understandin this

cause 99 percent of his fans don't exist.."

Wowwww...lol

Don't forget about KRS-ONE vs MC Shan, now that's what I call a classic battle, it's a tough call to say which battle's the best ever, but there's no question that I do enjoy that LL Cool J vs Canibus battle probably the best 'cause like Turntable mentioned, what LL did on "Ripper Strikes Back" after Canibus released "2nd Round Knockout" was phenomenol and it fired up LL to come back to make a classic album with "G.O.A.T.", the reason why Canibus was never able to recover is 'cause he's not that great of a song maker like LL is

I agree, this has to be one of the best, if not the best battle of all time, it was very close but ultimately LL won, Canibus never came through with a good album or even a hit song. The Ripper Strikes Back is one of my favorites songs ever, it is absolutely vicious.

I really enjoyed this battle. I don't think Canibus was really trying 2 start a battle but at the same time, the lyrics don't come across 2 me as anything other than a diss 2 LL. I actually think it's hilarious that LL went back and changed his lyrics when he heard Canibus' verse. "2nd Round K.O." was a decent battle track but i think "The Ripper Strikes Back" is on the same level of "Hit 'Em Up." I think those are the most relentless battle trax ever. Only the 90's could produce trax like that. I think LL's lyrics on "The Ripper Strikes Back" are just insane and the beat is crazy. I tried 2 listen 2 Canibus' album but i just couldn't get in2 it. His voice annoyed me and his sound was 2 simplistic 2 me. I thought Wyclef's "What's Clef Got To Do With It" was pretty wack. Some of the lyrics were good but the beat and vibe of the song were all wrong. LL did his thing on "Rasta Impasta" but it was no where near the level of "The Ripper Strikes Back." I also remember hearing a Wyclef freestyle on a Tony Touch mixtape but it didn't hold much weight. I was never a fan of Canibus' so i didn't hear much from him other than his 1st album. Me and Brakes know that we will never agree on who came with it harder during this battle....ha ha.
