Actor Will Smith and family auction art to help UN feed hungry in Haiti

8 January 2010 – Hollywood actor Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith are raising funds to help the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) tackle hunger in Haiti by auctioning a special artwork signed by music artists who performed at the Nobel Peace Prize concert they co-hosted in Oslo last month.

All proceeds will go towards providing nutritious meals to school children in Haiti, where WFP already provides food to more than 500,000 school children.

The artwork, which WFP and the Will & Jada Smith Family Foundation will sell on eBay starting today, is based on a map of world hunger. It is decorated with personalized silhouettes drawn by Will, his family and the artists who performed at the concert.

The actor underlined the link between hunger and peace with the words he wrote on his silhouette on the map: “There can be no true peace in the world while there is hunger.”

Other artists who contributed to the artwork include Wyclef Jean, Natasha Bedingfield, Toby Keith, Westlife, Esperanza Spalding, Alexander Rybak, Amadou & Mariam, Donna Summer, Lang Lang and Luis Fonsi.

The Hollywood couple co-hosted the Nobel Peace Prize Concert on 2 December in honour of the 2009 Laureate, United States President Barack Obama.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and UN Special Envoy for Haiti Bill Clinton traveled to Haiti in 2009 to raise awareness of efforts to help the Caribbean nation’s people and Government bolster their economic security.

While there, the Secretary-General noted the need to strengthen the country’s food security. He toured a health clinic, a nutrition centre and a vocational training scheme for women – social services supported by WFP and other UN agencies.

Smiths Go to Court to Beat Film's Investor to the Punch

LOS ANGELES (CN) - Hollywood power couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith have filed a complaint in Superior Court to head off a threatened lawsuit by a Philadelphia tycoon who bankrolled Pinkett-Smith's straight-to-video indie film, "Human Contract."

The couple filed the complaint Friday against David Grasso, a Philadelphia real estate tycoon who invested an unspecified amount in "Human Contract" through his company, Tycoon Entertainment, after Grasso threatened to sue for fraud unless he got his investment back.

Pinkett-Smith wrote and directed the movie.

"(I)t became clear after the film was completed that the Tycoon defendants were unlikely to recoup their investment," the lawsuit says. The couple says that's when "Grasso decided to play the 'blame game' and now threatens to file suit."

The couple says Grasso is "claiming without any basis that they convinced him he had no risk and guaranteed him a return on his investment" when "plaintiffs, of course, made no such representations nor is it conceivable that an experienced, well-represented real estate mogul like Grasso would believe such promises."

The couple seeks a declaratory judgment that have done nothing wrong and are not liable for Tycoon's losses.

Named plaintiffs include 100 Percent Womon Film Investments Inc., Pinkett-Smith's company, and Overbrook Entertainment.

The couple is represented by Allen Grodsky with Grodsky Olecki.

Gilles Marini Owes Acting Career to Will Smith (VIDEO)

Actor and 'Dancing With the Stars' contestant Gilles Marini told Bonnie Hunt that he owes his career to none other than Will Smith, who he encountered in a hotel restaurant while working as a waiter. Smith, who was in town at the time training for 'Ail,' encouraged Marini to pursue his dream of acting, he said on 'The Bonnie Hunt Show' (weekdays, syndicated).

"He gave me a boost. [He said], 'If you dream of something ... Los Angeles is the right place to go.' And, I thought, 'Hey, why not?' I just moved out and now it's history. I guess it worked out," Marini said.

Im friends with Jaden on facebook (at least i think its him) and hes just put this as his status.

"This stuff hurts. No matter how I try to ignore it, people can say what they want and dont care how i feel?"

http://dearfamousasshole.blogspot.com/2008/11/jaden-smith-mini-douchetard-in-making.html

Its a really horrible article and poor Jaden read it. They can write things about celebs, but its harsh writing things about kids. The worst thing is im sure there will be more to come and he'll learn being a movie star isnt always fun.
