CNN Special on Hip-Hop

CNN's Paula Zahn did an hour long special on hip-hop entitled Hip-Hop: Art or Poison? on Wednesday, Feb. 21st.

It was an interesting show although it seemed to me that Zahn just wanted to take the garbage, commercial rap and put the stamp on all hip-hop. She basically wanted to demonize hip-hop.

I found a link to the clips that were on the special.

2.21.07 CNN Special: Hip-Hop - Art or Poison?

What's your opinion on the clips?

Yeah I heard about this...I think it would be just as easy to show certain clips of Tupac, KRS, PE and Kweli and make hip hop look Godly...there is too much propaganda in those clips for me to take them seriously.

But I like the fact they took the time to listen to Chuck D.

Anyone check out Bryan Hurts new documentary puts much of this into perspective...

I seen it. It was only one good time tho, even tho I watched full on. Hurt's documentary just confirmed my views more clearer than what they already were. Like, we he asked a bunch of different kids to rap and it all came out the same. And then the one guy who rapped "semi-consciously" (who I didn't think was too impressive anyway) saying they don't wanna hear that. Seems like something about Hip Hop is everywhere here lately. Or perhaps I've just been very attentive. I seen Bill O'Reilley on "Best Damn Sports Show". It was just towards the end tho, and he threw out yet again shots on hip hop and Ludacris. And besides, they weren't calling Hip Hop poision when it first came about. They just said it wouldn't last.

I didn't even read that stuff. Maybe i will later. But i'm sure i'm gonna agree with alot of that stuff. It's stuff i'm sure that myself and others have already said. It's all part of the downfall of the commercial face of Hip-Hop and Rap. For so long crappy, negative, phoney rappers have gotten the hits, while legit, honest, artistic, creative emcees have lost the mainstream audience. The music sucks, everything on the charts suck. People like FP, Chuck D, LL, and recently joining them, Nas have stood up and fought against it for years but at this point, it's hard 2 see if it's still worth it. 2 me, i almost have this attitude that we need 2 Noah's Ark this joint, just kill off the commercial rap so that the underdogs can salvage it later.

Hip Hop artists are poisining the art form that we have all grown to love, we need more truthful artists and more albums like "Hip Hop Is Dead" a few more albums from Chuck D, Big Daddy Kane, KRS-one, it's time for the old school to come back and say what hip hop really is, it's a way of life, it's not just a CD, hip hop is me, hip hop is you, hip hop is life.

Well really like Chuck D says I don't "believe the hype", record labels and radio/TV companies need to be more selective with the type of programming out there for the commercial side of hip-hop to improve, there's a lot of unique individuals out there that should be heard, hip-hop might have to go back to being more of an underground artform, it has to be more of a love of the game like kids playing in the park, the commercialism aspect was something that watered it down and took the love out of it and filled it with greed, I believe that hip-hop still has a lot of life in it but the commercialism is like a virus at this point, personally listening to the radio makes me heartbroken so I just listen to CDs I like and personalised comp playlists

Like I'm gonna trust what a bunch of whiteys at CNN wanna label Hip Hop. Might as well turn it around on them and show how many times CNN lies or bends the truth on real issues and events.
