  1. Do you use the word "rank" like that? Sure hope so. It sounds good. Anyway: Didnt find a topic like this (though there's probably been one) so I think its about time we get one. Lets list (rank!) and grade all of Will's movies. I will begin and there's nothing you can do about it since Im yet to push the "Post New Topic" button. Mwahahaha! 1. Men in Black - 9/10 2. Where the Day Takes You - 8/10 Enemy of the State - 8/10 Ali - 8/10 Men in Black 3 - 8/10 6. Six Degrees of Separation - 7/10 Independence Day - 7/10 8. I, Robot - 6/10 9. Bad Boys - 5/10 Hitch - 5/10 The Pursuit of Happyness - 5/10 Men in Black II - 5/10 Seven Pounds - 5/10 After Earth - 5/10 15. I Am Legend - 4/10 16. Bad Boys II - 3/10 17. Wild Wild West - 2/10 Hancock - 2/10 Havent seen: Made in America (I've heard it sucks though) The Legend of Bagger Vance (seen it once but don't really remember much) Didnt list: Shark Tale (too hard to grade... its fun though), Jersey Girl (obvious reasons) Some comments. I find Men in Black one of the funniest, most original and most creative comedies ever made and think it deserves the top spot. On the shared second place I don't think there's any real surprises. Sure, Where the Day Takes You got some flaws that maybe should lower the grade, but the cast, the locations and the tempo makes it a really watchable movie anyway. Also I find that MiB3 was surprisingly twisted and with a genuine interest to actually not only prolong but renewing the series. EotS and Ali = pretty obvious. Moving down the list I first thought I, Robot was... pretty bad. But it's view or predictions about the future is becoming increasingly real (though we are the robots) and I think it could grow into (along with the book, of course...) sort of a 1984 status when or if technology starts to grow dangerous or too powerful. That day may soon enough come when we all got UAV's knocking on our doors. Further down, I dont really like the Bad Boys series as 1) Martin Lawrence................. and 2) too much violence, too little everything else. Also, the somewhat forced Pursuit of Happyness (well-acted but too cheesy), Seven Pounds (very predictable except for the obvious surprise) and I Am Legend all tries too hard. And the bottom three movies just suck.
  2. "It's amazing how fans, even some on this forum, seem to want the movie to fail. Very few people seem to want to give him even the littlest bit of credit for trying to make a movie with a positive and uplifting message. I'd even go as far as saying that it is a timely message given what fatherhood has become in our culture. Regardless, I'm glad you enjoyed it AJ!" Well, it's also amazing how some fans - whatever they are a fan of, if its 50 Cent, George Bush or Will Smith - makes the decision to like or love everything that their favorite do - without any critical thoughts. I find that far more common than the reversed. As "trying to make a movie with positive and uplifting message", it could be done by anyone at any time. The thing that differs good from bad is, however, how you succeed. And besides... I dont know if I find the "landing on abandonded earth 1000 years after it was destroyed by enviromental issues that really could occur in reality"-plot as very uplifting. Anyway. Saw the movie yesterday and... I don't know. It was okey apart from Jaden's useless performance and I feel sorry for him having to do this extremely hard part because his dad got power in Hollywood. That nepotism issue could unfortunately ruin Jaden's career and I really really feel that he should 1) start out with easier parts and 2) avoid being in movies with his father. As for Will, I think he made a pretty decent job, it's very interesting to watch him act desperate and powerless as it is parts of him that we seldom see in media, public appearances and most of his other movies, and he's doing a pretty good job showing that he still has a toe or two safely on the ground. Special effects.. decent as well. I don't know what to expect anymore. To me, all the CGI (if that's what its still called.. hehe) of today looks kind of okey and integrated correctly in the movies that uses it, however I expect After Earth to be one ugly ****ing movie when we see it in 10-15 years. Using computer animations is the best way of avoiding any of your movies to be timeless. The story is decent as well. It lacks some kind of explainatory depth but you never get bored and you sometimes get amazed. Though it's somehow obvious that it's very Hollywood (which means consumtion comes first, creative ideas second), it doesnt feel like the typical one and there's a certain atmosphere that makes the movie memorable. But good? Nah. 5/10.
  3. I'm glad I never posted in this topic... Last couple of years have been a lot of weed and not much else. But working seems so boring... I mean, you gonna do that for eight hours a day for like 50 years? Thats just... a waste. And the jobs of today just seems strange. I know a lot of people work at "the office", but what do people really do? "Consult", "engineer" and similar just feels really vague and far from what I want to do. I dont want to sell **** products over phone either. My only dream is to become some kind of writer. Only problem is that like 1/3 of the world wants the same jobs. In other areas there's equally little to say. Dont have the energy for love, dont really have the energy to do creative stuff (though it happens once in a while) but at least I'm listening to a lot of Parliament/Funkadelic. Should count for something.
  4. Some quotes translated with my faulty but functional english: Svenska Dagbladet 3/5: "The result, from Shyamalans leading the Smith family and to the almost computer game-like concept, has been mocked and criticised in USA. The F word has been mentioned. Fiasco, that is. And it's not a classic. But it must be admitted that this simple little story both plot wise and visually creates a special atmosphere. I liked it a little and don't want to make fun of it. If you can take it for what it is and nothing more, it's actually pretty exciting." Göteborgsposten 0/5 "Will Smith's grave serious acting looks very silly in this kind of movie. On Smith Jr you could say that he's doing as good as he can fighting a hungry CGI monster." Aftonbladet 2/5 Dagens Nyheter 2/5 Sydsvenskan 1/5 "Just like in the earlier Smith production, Karate Kid (2010), the son Jaden is going to learn how to be a real man. This time through a terrain run on the in the future enviromentally destroyed earth that still somehow looks like a overgrown californian Redwood jungle, where giant eagles, killer monkeys and the biotech invented monster Ursa, a mini version of the sea monster in Cloverfield, all want blood. Unfortunately not even the unintentional comedy gets entertaining because everyone involved, even the monsters, seem to suffer from deep depression. They probably read the script."
  5. Havent seen any positive reviews what so ever. Then again Will never gets good reviews in Sweden.
  6. I agree... and it is pretty worrying. A lot of actors go that same road; they get really big for ten-fifteen years and consider themselves immortal and then waste their careers by megalomaniac acts or ideas. Will is doing a lot of that now: * Some weird family child labor spawning useless junk in the music and movie industry. People think it's cute now, but personally I find it both strange and bad. I see a future where their careers are ruined forever because they will always be associated with Will whatever they do. * A lot of **** movies. Hancock? Please. I Am Legend... pfft. And now After Earth... horrible. MiB3 was alright. And while it only takes three or four movies to build a reputation and get people to attend the cinemas, it takes more time to kill off that career but I could see it happening. At a certain point people will get tired of it. * His choice of movies... I mean... it's either sequels or the desperate hunt for Academy Awards each time and while Will is too good to just be some kind of money cow to the movie companies, he can't really pull off the really complex, earthly characters since he seems to be increasingly disconnected from reality. And two straight ID4 sequels would remove a lot of the hard work he's put down over the years,,, I think a lot of people would lose whatever respect they have unless the movies are really good... which I seriously doubt they will be. The spaceship was blown up, and it was blown up before District 9 and before all of these end of the world movies became the thang. It was blown up before 9/11. If the movie came out today, it would have zero "oh ****", "what if that happened for real?" factor. My main issue with it though is that the idea behind ID4 sequels would be very obvious and transparent; it's about a movie company making money and about an actor being afraid of losing his audience...its basically Die Hard 4.
  7. Ok, seriously, I've been bumping this topic for years but it's for a good cause.. This is the absolutely best live performance of JJFP that I've ever heard.. It can't be completely lost. It needs to be somewhere. Tim?
  8. http://www.contactmusic.com/news/kanye-west-to-record-track-with-will-smith_3503194 Doesnt sound too bad..
  9. Nice! Sounds like you had a really good night. "For the JJFP fans we got some old school routines, "I Wanna Rock" & "Live at Union Square."" Im kind of curious what Live at Union Square sounds like in a club... Feels like it takes some skilll to pull it off without it being strange.
  10. Well, I'm with AJ on this one.. I think every respectable internet forum needs a "Lil Wayne = Idiot" topic.
  11. Well, living in the south of Sweden, it's closer to London than to Stockholm I think... But I'll go rob some old women or something and get the fundings. Shouldnt miss this opportunity.
  12. Mainland can blow me. Dude needs to go Scandinavia.. Hoping for Denmark, at least..
  13. A little late for reflections maybe... I saw the movie, while I in general don't like Will's movie stuff, I thought it was surprisingly good and original compared to the first sequel and to a lot of different movies trying to be funny. A couple of good twists and interesting characters spiced things up as well. Only thing I'm a little disappointed of is the developement of Will's character... If they do another one (which would be ok if they keep coming with good ideas), they need to take it a bit further and make the viewer more intimate with aspects unrelated to his work, I think.
  14. So, election is coming up in America... always exciting. As a Swede I would of course vote for the Democratic Party - well, in reality I would go for the Socialist party (since your left parties are way to the right from our extreme right parties), but that would be to throw away the vote I guess. Still, always interesting to hear something from the inside of the country. I'm guessing the Republican election has been well-covered in your media (seems logic because they talk about it a lot even here), and that Mitt Romney dude seems kind of... pukeable. What will be the big questions this time? There's not a lot of war going on, so to me its kind of a question mark what it will be all about. Ive only heard - so far - about the unemployment (of course) and abortion rights (which I consider a strange thing to discuss in a developed country 2012), but other than that? Since we dont have any JJFP to discuss, lets go crazy over this one..
  15. Ok. That dude beat me. So I gathered my funky friends, gave em bottles, drums, toy keyboards and some real instruments... and voila:
  16. Congrats man. No real challenge this time though, since I wasn't in. Kind of like Winter Olympics without Canada.
  17. I just made the instrumental into a Will Smith remix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EtexDLmnZg Works surprisingly well.. Thanks guys, it's very new - at least the beatmaking part. I've decided to call it "room" as a more chill version of "house". Later, I plan to invent "mansion".
  18. http://www.zshare.net/audio/49172858b2b81e/ This is from the 1986 New Music Seminar battles.
  19. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IHvu8b-otU Made entirely with bottles, juice packages and other stuff from my room. Right now it's just instrumental brilliance but I will do some rapping on it later, possibly in Swedish. *** I am also still doing songs as "The Educational Rapper" though it's been a while since last. This song here is about a cheap store called Netto in Svalöv. Very informative and important. I'm particularly proud of this song because I play the synth on the beat :p I walk past the coca cola's and I won't even think about the apples We're in Svalöv and we need the food so we go where it happens They got burgers made out of road kills from Slovenia and sausage from the dead body of a girl named Linda But we can dig it, we can enjoy it, cause they got cheap sheep stew Add some spice and you might actually call it food **** ICA, we can't afford it cuz we're boys from the getto Now livin in the netto Livin in the ghetto buyin food on Netto Feelin fine havin a good time Livin in the ghetto buyin food on Netto Feelin fine havin a good time Livin in the ghetto buyin food on Netto Feelin fine havin a good time Yo, when they opened up the place people went like yeah And everybody took their cars and bought their food there Before they built it it was some kind of parking lot Which people seemed to use by parking a lot But now it's all good cause the Danes opened their store I might forget about Svalöv but Netto in my heart for sure **** Pressbyrån, we cant afford it cuz were boys from the getto Now livin in the netto Livin in the ghetto buyin food on Netto Feelin fine havin a good time Livin in the ghetto buyin food on Netto Feelin fine havin a good time Livin in the ghetto buyin food on Netto Feelin fine havin a good time Okey boys, synth solo Livin in the ghetto buyin food on Netto Feelin fine havin a good time Livin in the ghetto buyin food on Netto Feelin fine havin a good time Livin in the ghetto buyin food on Netto Feelin fine havin a good time *** This song, however, is my latest TER-song. It's really bad because I was really sick (physically) when I recorded it... too bad. It's about the king of Belgium, Jelle van Damme. I made the beat myself (no sh*t). I'm a tell you a story not about bitches and not about glory No I'm talking Van Damme the man who came through Amsterdam even though he's Belgian, I mean h'es the heaviest **** since Lordi **** you, go home and die you little cocksucker was what she told me While I was jerkin off to Belgian videos I ordered toll free Listen to the stories I tell and try to memorize em my friend Jelle van Damme was born in a city called Lokeren Where he joined Beveren with Yaya Touré and them He made his first team debut in Germinal Beerschot Where the bass is pumpin the ass were shakin and the girls go what My patience achin, I'm rappin this up real hot So check out this **** or you better shut up He's Jelle van Damme He's like Zizou Zidane Well **** you, Jelle van Damme dominates Belgian football Sure he was in Germany Holland England and all But the important thing he's dominating Standard, Settin the Standard by being a better captain than the standard Like the drum handclap, wanna tap that is Standard thought With all the big mighty brains that Standard bought Guys like Jelle van Damme rockin the funky **** Takin charge of the standard, makin it hip He's twenty seven years old and almost two meters tall The tough quck ball winning playmaker who can do it all He's Jelle van Damme He's like Zizou Zidane *** And these two I think you've heard. The one about the Warsaw Radio Mast is one of my biggest hits ever. Kakapo (badly mixed, sorry) There is a bird named kakapo It lives on New Zeeland yes it do Its sort of a parrot with no wings It can walk but can't do other things I dont know what it smells like But I know it looks totally alright It might taste well, I dont know But if i had the chance I would have a go ITS THE KAKAPO OF NEW ZEELAND IT GIVES ME THAT COOL FEEL MAN I LOVE THIS FLIGHTLESS MOTHER****ER IT DOESNT REMIND ME OF CHRIS TUCKER Then the cat came to New Zeeland It came there and got the Kakapo eaten So they moved the bird to some island And now it seems it will stay alive yeah Theres about a hundred of them now And they all got different names, wow The government of New Zeeland likes them and offer them all kind of protection Do you remeber the Warsaw Radio Mast? Of all the buildings, it was the highest Sixhundred and forty six meters tall, It was the biggest of them all It was the cock of a thousand negroes, No white trash chick weighed those kilos Designed by Jan Polak in nineteen seventy four It was twenty six years yonger than Al Gore Warsaw (radio mast) Warsaw (radio mast) Warsaw (radio mast) But one day in ninetyninety one, **** fell down They were changing wires and it fell down Some people died and some people cried Poland was in a shock and lit candles of light They planned to put it back, But the local residents thought it was wack So if you wanna see it you gotta relax Lean back and imagine it while hearin this track *** Thanks for listening..
