Ale reacted to Ale in Alfonso Ribeiro to host 'Spell-Mageddon'
The ABC Family game show, a new take on the spelling bee, premieres July 24. Alfonso Ribeiro's next role will be as himself. Ribeiro, who starred in the 1990s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, has been named host of ABC Family's Spell-Mageddon, a one-hour game show that offers a fresh take on the traditional spelling bee. In the show, contestants must face distractions as they try to spell increasingly difficult words. The series, part of ABC Family's biggest programming slate to date, starts production Monday in California. It will premiere July 24 (9 p.m. ET/PT) after the comedy block of Melissa & Joey and Baby Daddy. Ribeiro, who played Carlton Banks on Fresh Prince, recently reunited with Fresh Prince star Will Smith on Britain's The Graham Norton Show. Thinkfactory Media (History's Hatfields & McCoy's, Lifetime's Preachers' Daughters) is producing Spell-Mageddon. http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/tv/2013/06/11/alfonso-ribeiro-to-host-spell-mageddon-on-abc-family/2413193/

    Hey guys,
Obviously I'm in a position where I get to speak with Jeff everyday and hear a lot of stories but I can honestly say he amazes me all the time. Having had a 30+ year career, sometimes I forget that he's been involved in music, and so many different aspects of the business, for a very long time. I wanted to share this story with you because even in my position, I still get star-struck and/or amazed talking with Jeff.

We were having breakfast a few weeks ago, (Jeff had 2 chocolate pudding cups and a cup of coffee lol) and we were talking about his mom. He was telling me that his mom never wanted to be front and center talking to press or anything like that and always kept him grounded, even at the height of JJFP. He said that they had "won an award" and there was a huge crowd waiting for him and Will at the airport and followed by a huge celebratory party being held at Jeff's mom's house. He said that in the middle of the party, his mom ran out of bread so she called him over, gave him $5 and told him to go to the corner store and buy bread. Jeff tried to protest saying, "but mom, this party is for me, we just won this big award". His mom said, "get your butt to the corner store and buy me that bread". He said it didn't matter to her that they were "famous" he needed to go and get the damn bread.

Fast forward to a few weeks later. I was looking for a particular video of him on youtube and started watching some old JJFP interviews.
    I randomly stumbled upon this:

I was shocked. Jeff had literally told me this story over breakfast and to hear it be part of an acceptance speech, 20 year prior was mind boggling. I called him and said, "hey remember that story blah blah blah" and showed him the video. He laughed.

Most of you have met Jeff and know that he is extremely humble. I told Jeff that every now and again I get caught off guard because I'm not talking to Jeff, my boss, or Jeff, my friend, I'm actually talking to "THE DJ JAZZY JEFF" and this was one of those moments to for me. He laughed again and said he knows how I feel because sometimes he forgets that he's that guy too.

So I agree, he needs to write and autobiography!

I'm glad you enjoyed the Spin Doctor Q&A. It was really important for him to give back and talk to the DJ community for a little bit.

    All I can say is.....wow!

I've been nagging Kev on facebook and twitter the last few days because I was so excited for this and couldn't wait to hear it. Kev - you uploaded it at the perfect time. You last tweeted me at 4:45pm my time and as soon as 5 o'clock came, I sprinted out of work and quickly hooked this up to my car so I could listen to it/watch it (eyes on the road, of course lol) on my commute home. This was very enjoyable.

I love how Jeff knows exactly how we feel from a fan's perspective. He was talking about the 1-on-1 relationship and interaction with the fans and its still surreal that he knows some of us here on a first name basis and goes out of his way to do these things for us (hookups at shows, facebook comments, music...etc). I'm so appreciative of it..

Thanks for asking about Code Red. That was probably the one question I asked that I hoped would make it on the interview. I'm with Tim on this one, I love Code Red. I love all the albums but Code Red is really a masterpiece. It's so fascinating to hear that they thought they were losing Jive's support. I'm almost baffled by it because at the time, it was only a few months after Homebase hit with Summertime and the duo was on TV every Monday night. Also, no one on hip-hop blogs/media/reviews ever mention Code Red. Jeff mentioned the clashes they had between the artistry and commercial music and it kinda makes me wonder at the end of Scream, how Will is sort of rapping like Dr. Dre/Snoop Dogg. It's pretty funny if he's subliminally mocking Jive and the commercial sound at the time.

AJ - hell of a question man. That was really thought-provoking.

Also, big thanks to everyone involved in orchestrating this. I lived vicariously through you guys and I hope there's more fan Q&A's to come. Literally - the best JJ interview ever.

    Hi everyone,
Can you please send me your pictures you took at either the show or the lunch? I'd like to put them up on Jeff's site/FB, with your permission of course. You can send them to nicole@djjazzyjeff.com

So Jeff had such a nice time talking with you all. He was blown away at the thought that went into the questions and a handful of them actually make him really sit and think. One question in particular blew him away. In fact, he said it may have been the best questions he's ever been asked.

"What would 2013 Jeff say to 1986 Jeff" really got him. I'm excited to see how he answered it.

Yeah it was a really good afternoon. Nicole, thank Jeff for taking the time to meet us. I know these tours are such a hectic schedule and time off is rare so it's really appreciated. I think the interview turned out really well so big ups to Kev for organising that. When I think back to 10 or 12 years ago I never would have imagined I'd get to hang with brakes, Kev & Julie and see Jeff. We've truly become a little JJFP family and I'll never forget these memories.

Great chatting with you today Nicole and once again thanks for all your help!! It's been an amazing 2 days! Certainly some more highlights this time around! The interview looked great and I think at one point there were four video cameras on the go!

Chilling in Jeff's hotel room was so surreal.. Tim, Kev and I were chatting with Jeff about all things music related and he even let us hear some exclusives from an upcoming release next year (You are all in for a treat...classic Jeff)
. I even brought Caleb down to meet Jeff and he took it in his stride! He didn't want a picture with Jeff but wanted to play on my iPhone instead! I told him he'd regret that in 20 years! All in all a memorable couple of days! Great set, great people, great memories. JJFP.COM REPRESENT!!

So Jeff did another great show last night. It was good to catch up with everyone and weird to have Kev, Brakes and Tim all in the same room. Jeff did a lot more of his old school hip hop this time, so it was completely different from the Jazz cafe. He mixed in a lot of modern stuff and i loved it when he put something obscure like Phil Collins in. The crowd was going mental, we were right at the front but i would just turn around sometimes to see the whole room jumping. Only negative thing was the set up of Plan B wasnt as good as the Jazz cafe because Skillz was just squished against a wall and couldnt move around like he would on stage. We could see Jeff up close though and see what he was doing which was amazing as usual.

We didnt really get to catch up with Jeff afterwards, he was busy signing t shirts but we had a quick chat with Skillz and a few others. However as we speak i think the others are just finishing lunch with them, which sucks for me, but amazing for them. I cant wait to see the interview they have for him. Hopefully they will get some good gossip.

Anyway, thats another show done, now just need to wait until Spring haha.

The others have a few group shots of our little JJFP gang.

these are some REALLY good questions guys! Coming off some routine press, he's going to really enjoy these questions. Kev, I've asked if he wants to see the questions ahead of time and he said "Nope!". He knows you guys will ask some interesting questions. Much more thought provoking than "what can we expect from you in ABC town".
    So excited to see this!

Jeff spoke to me in one of my facebook statuses. Pretty sure most of you on here are friends with me on facebook and will be able to read this https://www.facebook.com/kevin.tasker.16?ref=tn_tnmn

For those who can't view it. I wrote a status about All the songs from last night should chart in the UK this week. Jeff didn't realise how big things had blown up in the UK from doing the show. Read into this what you will.

He went on to say "were doing a few more things coming up...hint hint"
