  1. The reviews are starting to coming in this week from major critics and they aren't looking too pretty. I'm sorry to say it, but it looks like Will has a dud on his hand. Not just critically, we're use to that, but I think this will end his 100 million streak. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28256883/ http://charlotte.creativeloafing.com/gyrob...tent?oid=487824 http://www.citypages.com/2008-12-17/movies...m-seven-pounds/
  2. Yes, but I work at a movie theater, so I see everything. I know some of you seem to be down on the movie, but the reactions from the screenings Will did last week are pretty positive. There's been several reactions posted on imdb.com, blogs, and twitter, that recommend seeing the movie. Now, are people's opinions being swayed towards the positive side, because they were so giddy from meeting Will? Time will tell.
  3. I did a search, and this was a film Will was gonna produce with Kevin James starring in (announced after "Hitch" came out). Will has some many film announced or in development it's hard to keep track. I'd just like to know what he is gonna do next. I hope "Empire" with Michael Mann or "It Takes a Thief".
  4. http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/...0,1628203.story This is from an article about Sony making more family friendly films. "And megastar Will Smith is developing "Monster Hunter," a comedy in which he will star as a child psychologist who works with kids who dream of monsters, and a remake of the 1984 film "The Karate Kid," with his son Jaden in the lead role."
  5. Damn, he's going all over the place! St. Louis and Cleveland, but no Chicago!! Come on, Fresh Prince! I'm off next week from work , and if you were stopping in Chi-town, I'd try and go!
  6. After the remake of "Oldboy" and now this, I can't make excuses for the Fresh Prince anymore. These are just awful ideas....
  7. Oprah's no stranger in doing that, espically with movies and books. But, she doesn't do shows on movies and other medias unless she likes them, i.e. no Will Smith/Hancock show. Though, she did do one for Wild, Wild West.
  8. Did they show any clips from the movie?
  9. http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=50332 "Steven Spielberg and Will Smith are in early discussions to collaborate on a remake of Chan Wook-park's Oldboy, says Variety. DreamWorks is in the process of securing the remake rights, and the new film will be distributed by Universal. In the 2003 Korean original, a man gets kidnapped and held in a shabby cell for 15 years without explanation. Suddenly, he's released and given money, a cell phone and clothes and is set on a path to discover who destroyed his life so he can take revenge. Smith who would play the kidnapped man if all the pieces fall into place. Spielberg is looking for a writer to begin the development process. Spielberg is next expected to direct Tintin." I'd love to see Will work with Spielberg, but not on this. First off, the film is a masterpiece, one of the most orginal movies I've ever seen and remakes are usually awful. It is very dark and violent with one of the most disturbing endings out there. If they keep to the orginal, it wouldn't be a very accessible film to the mainstream. Frankly, I can't see Will and Spielberg making something so dark and edgy. So then what's the point? Critics and fans of the orginal, already generally upset about the idea of a remake, will be waiting to tear down the film for coping out and rightfully so.
  10. Source: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/p...can-986848.html I've seen a couple Bollywood movies and not to be dismissive, but they were pretty bad. So, I'm not too keen on this.
  11. I love Tina Fey, but can't Will get the entire show to promote Seven Pounds? Why split it? Bring on Rosario and Woody Harrelson to fill the whole show about Seven Pounds.
  12. Ugg..that poster sucks!! Sony doesn't even try, just slap Will's face on there.
  13. That's a little harsh. You act like Will has made awful movies of late. Actually, for the most part, they've been pretty good. Problems here and there, that keep them from being great or really good, which is disappointing, but they are not bad movies at all. Pursuit of Happyness was a good movie , though a little too sugary, with a great performance from Will. I Am Legend may have Will's best performance ever and was great until the end, which happens to many movies. All give you Hancock, though it's not as unpopular as some people think, it is an interesting movie that tries to do something different with the superhero genre. It's not totally succesfull, but Will should get points for trying something different. Seven Pounds looks to have that uplifting, feel good drama vibe of Happyness, which can be a little too sugary, but that's just the kind of person Will Smith is. He's all about being positive. I do agree that Will should be working with better people, espically directors. Co-stars aren't too bad. He just worked with Charlize Theron, whose a damn good actress. As for Oscars, every actor wants oscars and awards. Every serious drama released now till the end of the years was made by the studio, director, and actors involved with one of the goals being to hopefully get some Oscars.
  14. Trailer is finally out it theaters. It's attached to "Body of Lies". It also up at sevenpounds.com. It's a little different than the one that was posted on youtube.
  15. That was great! They should of left it in and other stuff like it. It's dark and unique, that what the movie should of been, instead of being mismatch of scenes trying to please different demographics. I'm really interested to see the unrated director's cut.
  16. I like it. It's a little vague,but it's nice to see a trailer that doesn't give everything away.
  17. No trailer this weekend, at least at the theater I work, it's not playing. Sony's really dropping the ball on this one. It'll be October and the casual moviegoer will have no idea this movie even exsist.
  18. http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=49143 "Variety is confirming what Francis Lawrence told ShockTillYouDop.com at Comic-Con International two months ago, that Warner Bros. is starting to get the ball rolling on a prequel to the 2007 Will Smith blockbuster I Am Legend, which grossed $584 million internationally. As Lawrence already told us, he'll be returning to direct, and Variety reports that Will Smith will return as Dr. Robert Neville, as well as co-produce with his Overbrook Entertainment partner James Lassiter and the original movie's producer Akiva Goldsman. The screenplay is written by D.B. Weiss based on a detailed outline that was created by the combined forces of Smith, Goldsman, Lassiter and Lawrence, which will cover the final days of humanity in New York City before a man-made virus creates a plague that wipes out the population, leaving Neville alone with the mutated inhabitants." ...don't know how I feel about this.
  19. "Miami Vice" "Stuck on You".....I read somewhere that the Farrelly Bros. wanted Will and Woody Allen "Phone Booth"...Wish he would of done it, I love this movie. "Snake Eyes" "K-Pax"
  20. No trailer this weekend, Sony backed out the last minute. Gotta be next week likely on "Eagle Eye" or maybe Spike Lee's new film "Miracle at St. Anna".
  21. http://dahlia-press.blogspot.com/2008/09/summer.html Watch the above linK. The lady talks about how she's gonna see a screening of "Seven Pounds". "As well, other exciting news...tomorrow evening I am going to see a sneak preview showing of 'Seven Pounds'! It's not due out in theaters until mid-December so I feel pretty lucky to get to see it so early on. For those of you who do not know, it stars Will Smith who plays a suicidal IRS agent who decides he should try to help seven people before he dies. Little does he know he is about to fall in love with Rosario Dawson who plays what?...a Letterpress printer! I'll let you know how it is!"
  22. I work at a theater and we get monthly emails from Sony, which gives information about upcoming releases and materials available to be displayed at our theater. This one said that Seven Pounds was supposed to have a trailer and one sheet ready this week, but it been pushed back to next week. So, it does look like Lakeview Terrance will have the trailer. Of Course, that doesn't mean every single print will have the trailer attached though. I'm sure it will be online by the 17th or something. The email also said,"we think this is going to be big this December and an Oscar-worthy performance for Will Smith". But the person did work for Sony, and they want us to push their products.
  23. With Will as Captain America, race would kinda of be an issue. Captain America's origins is that he was a soldier during WW2. With lots of America being segregated back then including the army, very few black men were even soldiers. It could present a realism problem for the movie. Will should past on the character anyways because Captain America is a lame character.
  24. http://www.variety.com/article/VR111799180...yid=13&cs=1 Will Smith may next morph into a god. "Braveheart" scribe Randall Wallace will write "The Last Pharaoh," a Columbia drama crafted as a vehicle for Smith to play Taharqa, the pharaoh who battled Assyrian invaders in ancient Egypt. Smith, James Lassiter and Ken Stovitz will produce for Overbrook Entertainment. Smith, who has long wanted to play the pharaoh, brought Wallace the Taharqa story. The film will focus on his battles with Assyrian leader Esarhaddon starting in 677 B.C. Smith next stars for Columbia in "Seven Pounds," a reteam with "Pursuit of Happyness" director Gabriele Muccino that Overbrook produced with Escape Artists. Wallace will next direct a Mike Rich-scripted Disney film about Triple Crown-winning racehorse Secretariat and its owner, Penny Chenery. He also just signed on to a Jerry Bruckheimer-produced Disney adaptation of the WWII battle saga "Killing Rommel," which Wallace will write with author Steven Pressfield.
  25. http://www.backpacker.com/august_08_walkin.../articles/12519 First John Francis stopped riding in cars. Then he stopped talking. More than three decades, two continent-spanning hikes, and countless trail miles later, he's still following his remarkable path of protest–only now he's not alone. by: Bill Donahue – Photography by Mark Compton It was one of those divine, cloudless April afternoons on which the sun shines bright and warm, finally, and the jonquils are blooming and the whole world seems heavenly. It was, really, an excellent time to be thinking about John Francis, a towering and elegant man who has spent the last 37 years taking long, peaceful walks about the globe, for Francis is–like, say, Johnny Appleseed or Peter Pan–a character who seems to float above all clouds and darkness. The man exists, but he's also shrouded in mythology. And now his friend, a Maryland homemaker named Pamela Ray, was articulating the Francis legend. "John," Ray mused as she sat on the porch of a café in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. "John is, well, a magical person. He's very complex yet very basic." Ray and her husband, Alan, and I were there to watch Francis, who's 62, embark on a 10-day, 160-mile hike westward, mostly over busy US 30, to promote "peace and earth stewardship." Ray continued: "He has such a devoted following. Everywhere he goes he draws people toward him. And he talks to animals, you know. My cats, who hate everybody–they like John. I've never seen them respond to anyone the way they do to John." What was Ray talking about? It was all a little ineffable, and her musings stirred an uneasiness in my stomach. As a journalist, I am in league with George Orwell, who once wrote, "Saints should always be judged guilty until they are proved innocent." I am leery of cheap mysticism. Yet the facts cannot be ignored: Francis has lived a large and unconventional and, yes, inspirational life. He's walked across the United States and then the length of South America, refused to ride in motorized vehicles for more than two decades, and maintained a strict vow of silence for most of that time. He inspires admirers like Ray everywhere he goes. And he has Hollywood interested in telling his story. A feature-length Francis biopic–Planetwalker–is slated to hit multiplexes nationwide next year. The production company, Shady Acres, which last year delivered Evan Almighty, is close to signing Will Smith to play Francis. Expect a strange and lovely tale, a classic underdog-hero-sticks-to-offbeat-ways-and-proves-the-importance-of-values-over-money parable. Think The Pursuit of Happyness II: Our Hero Hits the Trail. When the final credits roll, it's likely that many viewers will feel inspired to walk home from the multiplex–or begin wending the trails through their local woodlands and parks. Francis is now creating a social-networking website, planetlines.org, designed to get mainstream Americans excited about walking. Users will be able to post maps, GPS data, and narratives to tell about their respective journeys. "The idea," Francis says, "is to put people back in the environment–to get them away from their cars and their air conditioners. And they don't have to go to the Grand Canyon. I want them to explore the places where they live." But what if moviegoers walk no further than the parking lot? Will that matter to the man behind the myth? Will it mar the legend of John Francis
