Men in Black 5 seemingly revealed to begin filming next year

According to a recent production listing, an untitled Men in Black sequel will seemingly begin filming as soon as January 2025.

Although Sony has yet to officially announce “Men in Black 5”, franchise star Will Smith’s MIB performance at Coachella only fueled fan speculation.

The news comes from ProductionList.com, a popular website typically known for keeping tabs on major movie and TV show productions.

As per the listing, the Men in Black sequel will begin filming next January in London.

Hollywood veteran Tommy Lee Jones originally starred in the first three movies alongside Smith, who both played the franchise’s fan-favourite MIB agents.

However, due to the studio pivoting in which direction they initially had planned for a fourth movie, Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson ended up taking the lead roles.

The two Thor: Ragnarok stars replaced both Jones and Smith in Sony’s Men in Black: International, which didn’t quite perform as highly as the studio hoped.

It’s been around half a decade since International released in theatres.

Sadly for everyone involved, the latest instalment in the franchise ended up disappointing too many fans, which left any sequels starring Hemsworth and Thompson as the leads up in the air.

Since Smith’s Coachella cryptic MIB cameo, theories and speculation that the studio has plans to bring back the original cast have been at an all-time high.

The 1997 original is still said to be the best in the movie series, with its second instalment being one of the biggest letdowns prior to International being released.

Despite any harsh reviews, each movie has still managed to make a decent buck at the box office.

Men in Black 5 has yet to be announced but will reportedly begin filming in January 2025.

Writer-producer Gary H. Miller says knew from his first day on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air that Will Smith was going to be a star, but that didn't mean he didn't give a few notes along the way. And one specific performance tic resulted in a homework assignment the future Oscar winner wasn't all that thrilled about.

The former Fresh Prince showrunner appeared on a recent episode of Pod Meets World to discuss his storied career that goes all the way back to Laverne & Shirley, and includes Gimme a Break, 1st and Ten, A Different World, Reba, and, of course, Boy Meets World — hence the reason he was speaking with Danielle Fishel, Will Friedle, and Rider Strong on their popular podcast.

"When I took over [The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in season 4], he kinda had his own way all the time," Miller said of series star Smith. "And I said, 'Look, I'm not like that,' and I think he respected that. I told him things like, 'Look, you're telegraphing your joke because you don't have confidence in it. You're touching the actor in the scene with you right before the joke — it's a thing you do, a habit you do.'"

Miller explained that Smith's movements meant "I know the joke is coming next."

To help Smith develop his comedic chops, Miller "made him sit and watch — he hated this — the old Sgt. Bilko series, You'll Never Get Rich with Phil Silvers."

Yes, the very hip rap star of the early 1990s was condemned to watch the very schticky, black-and-white series from the 1950s, which was later called The Phil Silvers Show, but Miller being so old school, he used the original name. Hardcore.

"I said, watch this guy. Watch this guy drive an episode. No matter how flimsy the storyline is, it's like a moving train, and he takes everybody on the train with him, and you get to the end," recalled Miller. "I said, that's the kind of energy we need in 22 minutes. Because slow time in a 22-minute show is deadly."

It is undeniably amusing to think of Will Smith — who would later dominate the box office in blockbusters like Independence Day and Men in Black, then appear in critically acclaimed movies like Ali and The Pursuit of Happyness before finally winning the Oscar for King Richard — having to watch old tapes of Phil Silvers because the boss told him to.

Incidentally, Silvers' famous shyster character Sgt. Bilko was later revived as a feature film starring Steve Martin in 1996. It was not particularly beloved by critics, and did not fare so well at the box office. Maybe by then Will Smith could have offered some tips.

At Tesla‘s big Cybercab Robotaxi presentation last week at the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, the company also showed off the latest iteration of the Tesla Bot, dubbed Optimus, as well as a Robovan. The initial reveal of the trio of robot products caused great excitement on social media, but, very quickly, praise turned to mockery as the designs were scrutinized with a host of people accusing Elon Musk‘s company of ripping off the designs found in the 2004 sci-fi film I, Robot starring Will Smith.

Tesla had dubbed the event “We, Robot,” which plays into the title of Isaac Asimov’s 1950 short-story collection on which the film is based, so there was some recognition of the cross-pollination of ideas. However, many on social media called out the uncanny resemblance that all three of Tesla’s planned robot offerings have to similar products in Alex Proyas‘ film, which is set in 2035 Chicago.

I've been watching a lot of action classics lately and it got me thinking about bad boys. Wouldnt it be great if Bad Boys would be the next classic trilogy? just like beverly hills cop, die hard and lethal weapon (i know theres 4). Bad Boys: Ride or Die star Dennis McDonald has shared that his iconic end scene wasn't actually in the original script.

McDonald was first introduced in Bad Boys II as Reggie, the young man who is bullied by Mike (Will Smith) and Marcus (Martin Lawrence) for wanting to take Marcus' daughter on a date.

The clip quickly became a fan-favourite, often resurfacing on social media, but now Reggie is receiving some respect as he returns for the fourth instalment of the franchise.

"This is a blessing," McDonald told Entertainment Weekly. "When I got the script and I found out what I was doing, I already knew that this might be something real, real big. He's finally in the family, [Marcus and Mike] finally accepted him, he's finally getting his due, so I'm just happy about that."

Bad Boys: Ride or Die sees McDonald return as Marcus' now son-in-law, who saves the day when the bad boys are on the run after being framed.

Reggie, now a Marine staff sergeant, saves Marcus' wife, daughter, and grandson from an army of men infiltrating their home, as Mike and Marcus watch helplessly via video feeds. After killing the attackers and saving his family, Reggie earns the respect of the stunned bad boys.

The final scene of the movie ends with Reggie receiving a great honour, which McDonald revealed "wasn't in the script at all". Mike and Marcus argue over who mans the barbeque grill, then they laugh when Reggie approaches to take over. As they respectfully step aside, the movie ends on Reggie's smiling face.

"That was kind of crazy — I was in Miami filming, and then I flew back home, and then they called me like three or four days later to come back to Miami to shoot another scene.

"They just told me they wanted me back, so I'm thinking I had to do something over [again]. But I had lines and everything, and it was the whole end of the movie. They're like, 'Yeah, you end the whole movie. It ends with your face.' And I'm like, 'Are you serious?' I was just overwhelmed."
