New Will Smith Album
Will has finished filming Pursuit of Happyness and doesn't begin his next movie till June/July. At the moment he is working on a compilation album featuring a lot of different RnB, Reggae & Hip-Hop Artists. He has enlisted ?uestlove from The Roots and producer James Poyser to work on the album. James Poyser played keys on the Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince track "I Wanna Rock" and has produced tracks for Common, Erykah Badu, Eric Benet, The Roots and Musiq.
The Return of The Magnificent
Jazzy Jeff continues working on his second solo album after a few years of touring. He describes the album as his best ever on his latest blog on myspace. No word on whether Will is on the album, but he has been working with some great emcees for the project.

Will Smith's Party Starter Music Video Filmed 2 weeks ago
They recently shot the Party Starter music video in New York. The music video was directed by Paul Hunter.
Will walks into a broken run down club, he comments that the place ain't what it used to be, and then he picks up a mic on the floor. At this point the room comes alive, a sign saying "Hip Hop since '85 comes down, and people come through the room and start dancing to the song. Jazzy Jeff is also in the video. When they get to the last chorus the building falls apart, and people get out while the music continues playing. The music video will be hitting the usual outlets in the next few weeks.

Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince will be performing at this free concert this week at the Museum of Art in Philly. The event will begin at noon and end at 6 p.m. and is to include Will Smith, Jazzy Jeff, Stevie Wonder, Destiny's Child, P. Diddy and the Dave Matthews Band.
From 9 a.m. to noon, nine jumbo TV screens along the Parkway will broadcast parts of other Live 8 concerts being held in Europe.

Will Smith Hosts 46664 Concert in South Africa
Will Smith will host and perform @ the 46664 SOUTH AFRICA concert in George on the 19th of March. Will Smith has recently been appointed a 46664 Ambassador to further help the Nelson Mandela Foundation's campaign in the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS.
Mr Mandela said that while the concert at Fancourt would be on a more modest scale than the 2003 launch event in Cape Town, it offered a wonderful opportunity for South Africans to show their commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS, and in particular to empowering women to fight the disease.
Mr Mandela emphasized that "young women are six times more likely to be infected by the virus in comparison to men. Our future depends on them and we and the world must recognize our responsibility to them. Will talks Lost and found, worldwide Tour
Will was talking to AZ Central recently and had the following to say, Will describes the new album as a "snapshot of my life." "It's the most in-depth, revealing writing that I've done in my career," he adds.

According to Sky News Will is planning a tour to promte the new album, "I was hoping to get the new album out before the end of the year. But I got tied up with my new movie," Smith said. Will has recently recorded a track with reggae artist elephant man, he's also recorded 3 traxs with top korean producer park jin young. Ol skooler Kwame from the late 80s and early 90s has also produced some traxs for Wills album. And we've previously heard that Will recorded about 4 traxs with Petey Pablo. Certainly an interesting mix of artists for Will's new album.
Will Smith says I Robot is Darker and Amazing!
Will talking to Empire recently had this to say: "People will be very surprised," says the former Fresh Prince, . "It's darker, it's really well done, it's amazing. It is essentially an art house movie masquerading as a big summer sized action film."
"I think it's what the future of action movies are going to have to be like," insists Smith. "You have to think a bit, you gotta pay attention and in the film there are intellectual concepts that need to be debated and discussed and argued about."
And director Alex Proyas backs up these statements over at mystery clock : "Will has been very supportive of the movie and is extremely proud of it. Believe me, he's not kidding with what he says in that interview. He is a man of his word."

We've been talking about it. I'm supposed to be spending New Years with him. First of all Will's the biggest movie star in the world then he's got three kids so everything is different. Its not that he doesn't want to do it or we don't want to do it its just the timing and the scheduling. I'm touring like crazy, in the studio like crazy and he's doing movies so if we could just find the time and block out a month and just go do it I would love to do it.
Sharktale Soundtrack
The Sharktale Soundtrack is being released in October 1. It is being put together by Will for Dreamworks and some new tracks from him are included. One particular trackfrom Will samples the Jaws theme. Other artists on the soundtrack include Floetry and Missy Elliot, while Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis are handling some of the production.

West Philadelphia act sponsored by local boys made good DJ Jazzy Jeff And The Fresh Prince. 2 Too Many's debut single, Where's The Party, was hugely reminiscent of their better-known colleagues' style, with a penchant for fun over gangsta or soicio-political concerns. The duo comprise Jazz (b. Armique Shartez Wyche, c.1972), L'il Troy (b. Troy Carter, c.1973) and Ant Live (b. Anthony Fontenot, c.1974). They had been rapping together since the late '80s, before Jazz and Troy linked up in the 9th Grade, bringing aboard cousin Ant to finalise the band's line-up. They took their name from their high-school poverty; whenever they would attempt to embark on an evening's entertainment or activity, they always found enough to pay for one, and thus became: 2 Too Many. However, fortunes changed when they met Will Smith (aka the Fresh Prince) when he was recording next door to their rehearsal room. They introduced themselves and invited him to see them play. The result was a contract with his own Willjam Productions through Jive Records. He teamed them up with Hula and Fingers, the producton duo behind his huge 1991 success, Summertime. They envisaged long careers on the strength of this, spending many hours researching the music business in libraries to make sure they would not be taken advantage of, and acquainting themselves with management and production disciplines.
Look out for a new Philly rapper called, Journalist, aka Rafiek George. His debut album will be called Scribes Of Life and takes in the single Extended Family with MOP, not to mention production by A Touch Of Jazz (Jill Scott, Michael Jackson). On the 1990 release "The Simpsons Sing the Blues", Matt Groening hooked up with DJ Jazzy Jeff, who is well known for working with actor/rapper Will Smith (Jeff and Will are also old childhood friends), to write and compose the music to Bart's solo song "Deep Deep Trouble". Jeff provided the scratches, keyboarding, and drums to the song and also co-wrote the song with Groening. Deep Deep trouble peaked at number 67 on the Billboard charts. Scott's first writing credit, it won a Grammy Award. The tour
which followed led to further work with soulman Eric Benet
("When You Think Of Me"), hot new rapper Common ("8 Minutes
To Sunrise" and "Funky For You"), and most auspiciously of
all, Will Smith, with whom she co-wrote and sang "The Rain",
from his huge-selling Willennium album. "He's so funny," she
recalls of the Fresh Prince megastar. "You laugh all day,
till you just can't stand it any more. Like, you wanna knock
him out because he's So Damn Funny! I said, Please, stop,
you're killing me, literally killing me, my stomach's in knots,
my hands are sweating, just stop it! He's also a perfectionist:
you can't beat him, it doesn't matter what it is, if it's
running or whatever. The guys would race down the hallway
for fun, and Will would do anything to win. You just don't
beat him! Is he ever driven!" "Ultimately, we pay for what
we do, and if you think about it that way, there's an obligation
to educate and uplift - especially the children, because they
absorb so much of what we do: just look at all the young white
boys that dress up like young black boys, with the baggy pants
and the hats backwards. Will Smith gets a lot of crap - they
say he's sold out, popped out - but he doesn't curse, he doesn't
say anything that's harmful to children, if anything, he ignites
their minds, and I think that's commendable.

DJ Jazzy Jeff Lets Jill Scott Be Herself Co-executive producer of Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1 lets singer, poet, actress be herself. Rhonda Baraka reports: When Jeff Townes (a k a DJ Jazzy Jeff) set out to produce songs on Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1, the debut by the titular singer, poet, actress, he said he did so without any regard for labels, categories or industry perceptions. He wanted fans to see the real Scott and draw their own conclusions, he said. "I really loved what Jill's vibe was," said Townes, who is best known as the other half of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. "I really loved what she was talking about. I loved all of her spoken word stuff, and basically, we sat down and made a pact that we weren't going to change anything. I didn't want to change the way she looked, the way she talked, the way she dressed, the way she acted." Townes, who met Scott, a fellow Philadelphian, through a mutual friend, said he was intrigued by her before he ever heard her sing. "I'd never heard her do anything, but Jill's spirit was just so strong. I gave her a bunch of tracks, she called me up two days later and said, 'I wrote to one of the songs.' I picked her up, we drove on the waterfront, we sat and we parked and she sang 'A Long Walk' (RealAudio excerpt) to me. I was just like, 'Oh my God, this is incredible,' and we went to the studio, and we cut it. And everything started from there." Released in July, Who Is Jill Scott? is at #10 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart. For Scott, 28, the album is a way for her to convey her thoughts and experiences. "I did poetry first for about seven years," she said, "and when the poetry began to sing, I said 'OK,' I allowed it. I figured that this meant it was time. Instead of just saying my words, and speaking my words and performing the words, I get to sing them." Scott said the album is totally autobiographical. "Where else does one write from?" she asked rhetorically. "With this first album, I was really trying to introduce myself. I want you to know where I'm coming from." A mixture of spoken word, jazz and soul, Who Is Jill Scott? features such standouts as the brash "Gettin' in the Way" (RealAudio excerpt), the old-school-flavored "Do You Remember" and the poetic "Love Rain" (RealAudio excerpt). Scott said the songs might not completely answer the question posed by the album's title. "I'm not even trying to know the answer," she said. "I'm OK with that. I'm just paying attention to myself, paying attention to my sisters, to my brothers, paying attention to the world along the way. That's what I was told an artist is supposed to do. You're supposed to reflect what is going on in life." Best known for his part in hip-hop hits like "Summertime" and "Parents Just Don't Understand" - and as Will Smith's dense sidekick on "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air" - Townes said he understands why some people are surprised to learn that his "A Touch of Jazz" production team helmed most of Scott's record. But this is the kind of music he's always favored, he said. "I've always been an extremely musical person. ... I've always been someone who's been into the soul of music. It's just that from doing the Jazzy Jeff, Fresh Prince stuff, we got locked into something that it was very hard to get out of. The people that know me weren't surprised, because I did a record kind of like this with an artist I had signed to Elektra about five years ago, and it never came out. It just wasn't time." Townes said the success of Who Is Jill Scott? amounts to more than just a hit record. He said Jill, as a person, shines through on the project, and that's what fans like. "I have to give a lot of props to Jill. It was almost like because of her innocence and her not knowing, she just made what was in her heart," he said. "This wasn't contrived. We didn't make it up or think about how to do something. This was basically straight from the heart, and that's how we want to do it and keep it."
* Jazzy Jeff has signed a deal with Columbia Records. He is currently working on the album in Philadelphia. The first single was a limited release 12" entitled "When to Stand Up." It featured emcee's Eminem and Paul Yance. Other artists to feature on the album include Will Smith, Common, King Britt, De La Soul, and The Roots.

Will Smith Faces Another Legal Rap
More legal trouble for Philadelphia's Will Smith. The man
who became famous as "The Fresh Prince" has been sued by a
man who claims he deserves much of the credit for Smith's
success.
You might not recognize his sound or his face but Will Smith
fans will certainly recognize the song he claims he helped
create: "Parents Just Don't Understand."
Clarence Holmes/"Ready Rock": "We co-wrote it together in
his kitchen drinking Kool Aid, our favorite drink, and it
just took off."
Clarence Holmes certainly seemed apart of the the Fresh Prince
Jazzy Jeff craze from the early press coverage and the gold
and silver records. But Ready Rock says aside from a ten thousand
dollar check, he hasn't received any of the other residuals
from a contract he entered with Will Smith and Jeffrey Townes
a decade ago. He's now filed a lawsuit to recoup an estimated
five million dollars.
Jeffrey Servin/Holmes'Attorney: "There's two basic agreeements
a production
agreement and a publishing deal and Clarence Holmes Will Smith
and Jeffrey
Townes on the three names on those deals and very simply when
you have a situation like that each is entitled to a third
of the revenue."
Holmes is a boyhood friend of Smith's who said for years Smith
led him to believe
the money was coming. His attorney has been speaking with
Smith's attorneys for
about six months but with no success. For Holmes its been
both a financial and
personal setback.
Clarence Holmes/"Ready Rock": "The only thing I can say is
he was just stringing
me along... and just to live day to day life knowing I'm not
living the life style I really deserve it hurts."
Will Smith, who according to his publicist is on location
like his attorneys, has been unavailable for comment. It was
just last year that
Philadelphia producer Dana Goodman with the same attorney
as Clarance Holmes has employed avoided going to court and
settled a separate suit with Smith. Holmes is hopeful the
same thing can happen once again. Clearly left behind,
he says he just wants recognition that he was there in the
beginning.

Will Smith features in a remix of "boy you knock me out," which also samples kool & the gang's summer madness a la "summertime." Will Smith raps, "here it is a groove slightly transformed again, but with a Tatyana Ali spin."
* Big Willie Style has gone 10 times platinum. It features three tracks with collaborations with Jazzy Jeff.

* Jazzy Jeff can be found on Masters of Work Nuyorican Soul project. The album also features artists such as Jocelyn Brown, Roy Ayers, George Benson and Tito Puente. The track entitled Jazzy Jeff's theme features Jeff scratching up Run DMC's "Peter Piper."
* Jazzy Jeff recorded a track with De La Soul for King Britt's next Sylk 130 project which, is due for a release in September. The project will also feature Victor Emanuel Cooke, ex- A Touch of Jazz Producer (Homebase, Code Red).
* Jazzy Jeff was on the roots last album, "Things Fall Apart." He is featured on the track "The Next Movement," which will be the next single off the album. ?uest love writes, "DJ Cash Money and DJ Jazzy Jeff are both heroes, peers and friends of ours. So it was a must that we include them and use them to knock down another barrier for us (the exclusion of the DJ) in which the latter helps us to the nth degree with his perfect polyrhythmic scratching patterns."

DJ Jazzy Jeff is working on a solo album at home in Philadelphia that intends to include such notable collaborators as Eminem, King Britt, The Roots, De La Soul, Common and Jeff's original partner, Will Smith, according to the Los Angeles Times. The paper reports that the record will feature Jeff's turntable, sampling and production skills.
Jeff, a.k.a. Jeff Townes, and Smith were best known as the rap duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince producing albums like their 1988 pop crossover hit "Parents Just Don't Understand" before the latter went on to fame and fortune as a TV star and solo artist. Jeff joined Smith on TV in the early days of the French Prince of Bel Air sitcom.
Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince were reunited for a live performance last year in London, revisiting their roots with just two turntables and a microphone. Jeff says that he's now hoping to convince Smith to join him on the road for a tour. "He's got the bug, so we'll see," says Jeff.
Jazzy Jeff is featured in a special issue of XXL Worldwide in which over 200 artists gathered in harlem for a special photo shoot. DJ Jazzy Jeff had to say on the day, "Who was I looking to see? I had just did a session with Common. And then with the Mos defs and the Talib Kwelis and the De La Souls and A Tribe Called Quest.And then I see the Kool Hercs and the Kidd Creoles and Grandmaster Flash. My heart still tingles when I see Grandmaster Flash. Grandmaster Flash was the first DJ to get props for being a DJ, and to talk to him? Every time I see him, it's still kinda like [speechless]. Grandmaster Flash gives me credit for what I've done.it's almost like I wanna tell him to stop! If I'da turned back the clock to 22 years ago, in my bedroom, cuttin' records-to think that one day Grandmaster Flash was gonna legitimize me, I'd be like "Ah, naaah." I enjoyed the whole thing, to the point that I went home with a bad headache 'cause I didn't eat. I didn't wanna eat. I was like, "Yo, I'm tryin' to suck in every ounce of energy that I can. I don't wanna go nowhere to get nuttin' to eat! I can eat later. I can eat for the rest of my life!"
