“I’m like the worst techno geek that you know. I need everything,” says the Fresh Prince. “The worst thing that ever could’ve happened is that I earn enough money to buy the gadgets that I want. Like one iPod isn’t enough. I need the 10, the 20, 30 and the 40. Then I need the skinny one with all the different attachments.”

His latest electronic purchase is a music program for Macintosh computer called Reason.

“For the first time ever, I recorded and mixed a CD of a complete record in my laptop in a hotel room. I tear up just thinking about it. When I made my first album, we barely had beat boxes. [Jazzy] Jeff had a 909, which was one of the early beat boxes. We couldn’t record at home. Then a few years later, four-track recording at home came out, but it wasn’t good quality. It wasn’t until my third album that we even had an issue of putting an album on CD. We were arguing with the record company, ‘Why we gonna put it on CDs? Nobody uses CDs. We wanna put it on wax.’ So coming into the era now where you can record an entire record in your hotel room, it’s really a beautiful thing.”
