1.
they dhould drop thier atists as soon as they arnt populair anymore (and this is not sarcasm) It isnt fun for us or fun for the artist BUT that is what they should do since they are a corporation and they are ment to make money
That's exactly what Columbia and Sony's other labels have been doing. Look at Mariah Carey, Jon B., Xscape, Ruff Endz, Mandy Moore, Wyclef, Will Smith...all have had big albums on Columbia, and all have had ones that did average and now they are no longer on the label. Even Jennifer Lopez and Michael Jackson have been bad mouthing them. A labels motive should not be just 2 make money. Artists are creative and talented people. Sometimes u have a hit and sometimes u don't which isn't up 2 them...it's up 2 how fans pick up on it (if they even get exposed it). Alot of those artists above have put out good stuff, but the label's weak promotion and backing 2 them is what make their albums fail (compared 2 what they wanted). That's the label's fault, not theirs.
2. Yeah, Will won the web-address since the person who 1st registered it advertised the site as an official site (which waz actually quite good). Will really should have his own website rather than have his label's handle the sites. If Will had his own people runnin' it, we'd always be updated, we have access 2 real merchandise and a legit way 2 contact Will. I'm sure the site Will and his team would put 2gether would be nothing like the ones Columbia organized.
3. HA HA!!! Thanx 4 that. As an actor, i have some special stage kissing stories myself...ha ha. Ain't nothing more intense then having your girlfriend pay 2 see a show where kiss a girl down over 5 times...ha ha.
4. All Eyez On Me is a dope album, but at the same time, the whole Deathrow vibe clashed with 2Pac's kind of music. While there are definilty songs with substance on that album, the ratio of them 2 songs that are just songs with no real point waz kinda out weighed. I think it waz cool 4 the time, but that's why 2Pac wanted 2 get off Deathrow, cuz he didn't wanna turn his career in2 an overly explict, thugged-out, coast-beefing career. He had bigger things in mind.
5. Control over the music has nothing 2 do with big label vs. independent label. The control of the artist will vary from label 2 label no matter what the label is. The real reason 2 be on a big label is properly have your album promoted so that the artist themselve isn't doing ALL the work and putting ALL their own money up front. The bigger the label, the more copies of the album and the more locations it'll pop up in. For instance, Britney Spears puts out her album thru' Jive, a big label, and each music store will have like 100 copies of it on the shelves and on display. Jazzy Jeff releases his album on BBE, an independent label and u find about 5 copies of the album in music stores, and NO COPIES of it department stores. Of course that's not the best kind of example cuz they are 2 different kinds of artists from 2 different kinds of music and with 2 different kinds of fanbases...but that kinda sums it up.
6. This is where i step in and stress that Hip-Hop and Rap are 2 different things. Hip-Hop music is music (any kind of music) that comes from people who came up in a Hip-Hop environment. Rap is usually Hip-Hop music but anybody from Mary J. Blige to TLC are Hip-Hop artists cuz of where they are coming from. Anybody can rap, but that dosen't make them Hip-Hop. These days, people who are only exposed 2 mainstream rap often have no idea what Hip-Hop music is these days.
7. And we all know that Sony is just about money...at least when it comes 2 Columbia Records.
8. Yeah, there's a whole bunch of trax where this almost no cussing...like So Many Tears, Trapped, Changes, etc. 2Pac is the most misunderstood emcee ever. Most of the fans that jumped on during that 1996 era when he waz still alive for All Eyez On Me only think he's this hardcore thrug lord....which isn't right. And most of the people who jumped on him after his murder don't really know anything about him cuz all they've heard from the "newer" stuff is raps with added on guest artists and trashy updated production (believe me, the original production of those songs waz better even if some of it would sound a lil' dated). So many people think they know what that man waz about but they simply don't. Will is the same way, so many people see the Big Willie Style-Jiggy-Miami-Hollywood Will, but we all know that's only the untouched surface of him as an artist and that the real stuff is underneathe all that. I waz never a fan of Biggie's, but 2 me he seemed 2 be one person in his records and another in real life...which wazn't real 2 me so i didn't listen 2 him. I'm sure he would have opened up over the years but we never got 2 see that.
9. When i think about this topic...i think about Will working with Lil' Kim on "Da Butta"...it's one of his weakest songs but i guess it worked better than i expected when i heard he did a track with her. The thing is with 2Pac and Biggie, they would be recycling those raps which means chemistry isn't an option cuz they can't work 2gether. I can see Will writing 2 a 2pac song cuz he waz so multi-faced and i could see a song working out with the 2 of them. I just can't see it with Biggie. I guess doing a song with a verse like "Mo Money Mo Problems" would work, but that's only cuz Biggie's verse isnt' really about anything. I love the song, but the lyrics in that song mean nothing.
10. This didn't load 4 me last nite...but it did this time. THANX!! Good stuff!!
11. There's no way that it could be a mistake, that's an official Colulmbia advertisment. This is strictly my guess, but i'm thinkin' that maybe there waz a problem like a sample clearance that kept it off the album. I doubt Will or someone at the label desided 2 cut the track from the album (especially cuz he waz on Columbia at the time as well). That advertisment waz done when the style of the album waz already set, so must have been put out just b4 the album came out. I wish they gave the title of the song. I'm just guessing this is why it didn't make the album, cuz "Pump Me Up" waz intended for Big Willie Style, but the song had 2 be "re-created" for various reasons that i promised the source i wouldn't talk about. Maybe we should go 2 the Wyclef board and ask them about it 2 see if they know anything.
12. I have an article from 1997 when Will talked about 2Pac and Biggie and gave them both props. He raved about how 2Pac may record some explict stuff, but that some of it is genious...that he waz years in2 study about some of his topics. It's funny cuz he actually goes on talking about "Wonda Why They Call U B!+C#" (which happens 2 be one of my fav trax off All Eyez On Me). Will went on 2 breifly talk about the time him and 2Pac spent 2gether. So yes, they were friends...espeially since Jada and 2pac were best friends. I'll try 2 look up that article this week and type up the part about 2pac and Biggie. Off the top of my head, the trax i can think of where 2Pac doesn't cuss are Rebel of The Underground, When My Homies Call, I Get Around, Keep Ya Head Up, Dear Mama, Me Against The World, Temptations, California Love, Toss It Up, Do For Love, Better Dayz. In one of his last interviews (one with Slay during the shoot for "How Do You Want It," 2Pac talked about doing his next album very instrospective, all postiive, and clean. I really which that album happened. 2Pac often recorded alternate versions of his songs with no cussing like Pour Out A Little Liqure w/ Thug Life, Amerika's Most Wanted, How Do You Want It, I Ain't Mad At Cha, To Live & Die In L.A., etc.
13. That's really sad....but at the same time, not everybody knows waz Jazzy Jeff's real name is. It's not like the whole Fresh Prince - Will Smith thing where everybody knows both names. Jeff also isn't a mainstream artist these days so younger kids aren't exposed 2 him in a big way. It's still kinda depressing since Code Red is about 10 years old AND Jeff dose stay busy in a way that people should know about him.
14. THANX!! Where did u find that ad? Makes u really wanna hear the stuff they did 2gether.
15. I havn't bought a Source magazine in about a year but i thought Source has always been pretty good. Vibe covers alot more than Source dose....but the 2 of them are my favs out of all the other magazines i've gotten in the past (Rap Sheet, Rap Pages, Blaze (by Vibe), XXL).
16. I must be losing my mind....i've watch various Bad Boys trailors on all kinds of DVDs and i swear i've never seen it b4. Even back in 1995, i remember seeing another trailor (cuz i think the one w/ the clip of the deleted scene sux compared 2 the others). I'll have 2 go thru' all my DVDs and watch them all.
17. I just can't see them takin' a recycled B.I.G. rap and having Will write something 2 it and having it make sense. With 2Pac, it's still a stretch but i could see it being pulled off well. Just my opinion.
18. I thought so...but with the way alot of us have been disagreeing on stuff, i wanted 2 make sure. That waz hilarious.
19. I waz surprised that they had so many artists that deserve 2 be considered amounst the best. It looks like the best of best are getting the least amounts of the votes. When i saw the list, it waz obvious who got my vote....none other than the microphone fiend. I live Vibe alot. So many people they they are a bit mainstream when it comes 2 Hip-Hop and R-N-B, but the truth is, they are featuring more artists that deserve that attention compared 2 other magazines.
20. :bowrofl: Please tell me i'm laffing at this cuz i'm supposed 2. :bowrofl:
21. THANX!!! That waz great. Jeff is a Hip-Hop prophet.
22. I don't really like Biggie but if P. Diddy and Will are cool, i'm sure he could use a recycled rap if he wanted 2. I don't think it would make much sense tho'...Biggie didn't write stuff that would go along with anything Will writes about. I would love a 2Pac colabo tho'. I could totally see a track like "Afro Angel" being put 2gether. Since Will isnt' gonna allow any explict lyrics on his album, 2Pac could be possible since he did write music without cussing occasionally. Will and 2Pac were friends while he waz alive and 2Pac like 2 stir things up when he recorded trax, so if he waz never murdered, they may have worked 2gether in the future. 2Pac actually recorded 2 or 3 trax with M.C. Hammer back in 1996 that were never released...i've been hoping they'd come out forever. The murders of 2Pac and Biggie are actually what inspired Will 2 come back out. Hip-Hop and Rap fans were ready 4 some lighter, more fun stuff.
23. Hip-Hop is the only culture that musically has no rules...which is why i love it. U can be any color, age, sex, or from any location. Of course Hip-Hop waz born in the US, so the culture started out here...leading 2 the music. But the culture has spread worldwide and branched off in all kinds of different ways. 2 me, the things that make a true emcee is someone who can write good lyrics, develop their own flow, be themselves in their music (and in front of the cameras), and simply know how 2 perform.
24.
Depends on whether its a double LP or not
Who said anything about a double LP?!? :bowrofl:
25. The cool thing about Will getting on a good label is that we'll probably hear alot more music (better music). When he waz on Columbia, i don't think he had much of a drive 2 do music simply cuz they had 2 much control and were way 2 much about the business, money, and fame. Of course Will dosen't mind that either, but Columbia didn't care about his art...only his sales. With the right label, we could see alot more music from Will without such huge gaps between albums...not 2 mention more cameos on other people's trax.
