  1. I think Jive did okay...after all, they loaded their past 2 albums down with 3 singles and videos each. However, we are looking at Jive with 2days standards which make them look good. But back then they were a lil' shady in different ways. Think about it, all their artists are on different labels. Smooth, Aaliyah, Fu-Schnickens, Shaquille O'Neal, Public Announcement, Q-Tip, Phife as solo artists, and Ali Shadeed all had problems and left the label (some havn't recorded since). A Tribe Called Quest looks like they will return as a group on Jive (guess they could only get off as solo artists) but i think even Too $hort left them. When JJ+FP came out with "Parents Just Don't Understand"...it blew their fame out of this world and Jive wanted them 2 be the Rap Pop stars...which wazn't what JJ+FP wanted. Check and Jazzy Jeff interview and some of Will's, they often talk about how Jive wanted them 2 always do the mainstream stuff when they wanted 2 show all their sides.
  2. When it comes 2 gender complications...we can't 4get wills_girl aka love2will aka HarryN who fall in love with themselves, die in car accidents and come back from the dead 2 post.
  3. Welcome 2 the board!! This is the place 2 be 4 all the JJ+FP news.
  4. ...just another pointless unessecary reply...
  5. I can't imajin Def Jam being one of those labels that really dose their artists long but i'm sure DMX had a reason 2 say that. L.L. did say this when 10 came out...he said that they were paying him on the contract that he signed back in 1985 and realistically, they owe him millions. But since he never fought 2 get his contract modifyed, he just kept getting paid the way he waz back in 1985. And as u can imajin, conctracts aren't done that way anymore...ha ha. L.L. loveds Def Jam and Hip-Hop so it never really bothered him that much. That shows that he's truly an artist who loves his music, his culture, and his fans...and that's what a true artist is all about in my opinion. I thought he waz gonna leave Def Jam after 10 cuz he contract waz finally filled, but i've heard things that make it sound like he's gonna stay there and get a new contract.
  6. I just heard the track 2day on the radio. The production doesn't knock me off my feet, and the lyrics aren't anything special, and i've never liked his voice/flow...BUT U KNOW WHAT...the current rap scene has made me actually like this song a good bit. Anybody who has known me since the late 90's will know that i always ripped down the Bad Boy camp 2 no mercy back then. However, with so many God-awful rappers out here, it makes that mid-late 90's Bad Boys stuff look legendary. I like this track cuz it's fun and breezy....no cussing and materialistic stuff. I'm just happy that a track like this is out and hopefully it'll spring board a few more rappers like this (or better) 2 come out and do their thing. I used 2 call Mase the wackest rapper ever after Vanilla Ice, but as of right now, i got his back. Of course hearing more of his music could turn me away from that...but hopefully it won't and he'll serve as somebody who's here 2 clean up the rap game that he helped trash up years ago.
  7. I thought waz Shreck 2 waz good...better than the 1st, but i don't think they are good as they are hyped up 2 be....but definitly good movies. Back 2 SharkTale tho'....i doubt it'll be looked at as a Finding Nemo wannabe. Finding Nemo waz a Disney movie....SharkTale is defintly NOT a Disney movie. SharkTale is aimed for ALL audiences and i think one look at the trailor will let people know it has nothing 2 do with last summer's boring, drawn-out, flaky, kids-aimed Finding Nemo.
  8. Yeah, Will came 2 Jive when he recorded "Men In Black" but they didn't think it would be a hit and didn't want it. Of course this is hilarious becuz "Men In Black" became the most-played Hip-Hop song of all time. JJ+FP and Jive already had problems becuz JJ+FP wazn't happy with how they were being promoted after "Parents Just Don't Understand" waz a hit (they wanted 2 promote them almost the way Columbia promoted Will as a solo artist). They later had other legal problems when it came 2 money and breach of contracts (Will has said off-book that they owe them money that dosen't look like he's fighting 2 get). When it comes 2 this stuff tho', it's not public knowlege and it's actually none of our bizness so we'll probably never know the facts. I just picked up the whole MIB-Jive thing from a Will Smith documentary that waz put 2gether in 1998/1999. The money/contract stuff i remember hearing from Ready Rock C.
  9. Why dose this post exist?!? :bang:
  10. I wasn't even considering seeing this movie...but thanx 4 the heads up. Often these movies that are basically about destruction have pathetic endings. Either cuz the escapism factor is done in a cheezy way or cuz it's based off a true story and real life just isn't that interesting. Like The Perfect Storm...u watch these fellas survive in the ocean during a storm...an hour and a half later...they die. U can't make real life stories be perfect 4 a movie.
  11. I loved most of the stuff Will wore in the 1st few seasons. The baggy bright stuff waz the best...then again, i dressed the same. The later seasons were just kinda bland and Will fit in 2 much.
  12. Ha ha...i'm definitly a kid of the 80's and a teenager of the 90's...so that's why my standards are so high. I waz exposed 2 the good so it's easy 2 point out the bad. Everybody had different opinions when it comes 2 music but there is a certain level where u don't have 2 like and artist, but u know that they are good at what they do. These days, i don't like alot of artists and it's becuz they are just bad....period.
  13. Ebay has everything. Used CDs are most common tho'. U can also check Half.com which is ebay, but without bidding and time limits. It easier 2 just look at Half.com 2 see what's sealed and what's not.
  14. I havn't talked 2 either of those peeps...but HAPPY B-DAY!!
  15. Yeah, i tryed that an it worked. However, i don't think Captions are funny without the pic right above them so i bowed out of this one. I also wazn't feeling 2 creative with it (as were most of the people replying 2 it)...ha ha.
  16. Yeah, ebay is your best bet. Most websites require credit cards so ebay is the best way 2 go since alot of sellers will still accept cash, check, and money orders. That's where i got most of my collection. Out of the 300 some items i've gotten off ebay, i've been ripped off a few times. U can usually know that the seller is legit by their feedback. Ebay gets rid of phoney people so it's pretty safe.
  17. That is great!! Seeing Will perform is a great thing...period. It's simply a joy 2 watch him and he's just so talented.. I wish he would do it more becuz it's one of his strongest points. Just seeing people like him perform makes u realize how many of 2day's artists don't know how 2 perform. There's something magical about seeing him perform "Summertime" that's just magical so i know how u feel. It just makes me happy 2 know he performed the other nite...just 2 know music is on his mind.
  18. Ahhh.....that's right. Will has a cameo for his one line which wazn't even shot on the set of the video...ha ha.
  19. Where i live, there waz no Hip-Hop R-N-B stations for years. I always had 2 listen 2 stations located in D.C. 2 get non-stop Hip-Hop and R-N-B on the radio. The summer of 2002 marks when my town FINALLY got it's own Hip-Hop/R-N-B station. However, it waz only half a victory cuz it seems like they play the same 20 songs over and over and over again. It's mostly top 20 type stuff so u hear alot of Jay-Z, Eminem, Ludacris, 50 Cent/G-Unit, Lil' Jon + The Eastside Boys. Everytime an OutKast, Black Eyed Peas, Twista, Dialated Peoples, or Kanye West song jumps on, it's a breath of fresh air. Of course they play R-N-B 2 but it's always the top 10 stuff so u hear alot of the same thing. HOWEVER, this Memorial Day weekend they had "Old School Weekend" which waz 4 days of them mixing 2days stuff with classic old skool. Me and all my friends were listening all weekend and caught some good stuff (mostly 90's tho'). Here's a list of the good stuff we caught... JJ+FP "Parents Just Don't Understand"...this actually cut on yesterday morning when my alarm woke me up for work Will Smith "Gettin' Jiggy Wit It"...heard this on my way 2 B-more DJ EZ-Rock + Rob Base "It Takes Two" M.C. Hammer "2 Legit 2 Quit" L.L. Cool J "Mama Said Knock You Out" Salt-N-Pepa "Shoop" Salt-N-Papa + En Vogue "Whatta Man (Remix)" Kris Kross "Jump" Coolio "1,2,3,4 (Sumethin' New)" Warren G + Nate Dogg "Regulate" I just wanted 2 share. They've gone back 2 their regular format but i'm hoping they are gonna slowly mix in more old skool and more varitity in2 their playlist. Since i live in the kinda area where alot of the fans are only listening 2 the stuff in the top 10, i understand how they gotta start the station off 2 gain a big fanbase, then change when they know it's safe. I've seen little change over the past 2 years, but i'm hoping 4 the best.
  20. HA HA!! Biggie and Big Syke sound nothing alike!! The only trax i know of that they recorded 2gether are... "Runnin'" - which waz remixed and released on Tupac Ressurrection. The original version has the mid-90's sound which is a better version than Eminem's remixed version. Texas trash rapper Trapp doctored this track right after 2Pac waz killed and released it on his own album w/ a rap of his own and titled it "Stop The Gunfight." "Let's Get It On" - A track recorded with "Runnin'" from the mid-90's. This track is just ill, 2 bad that whenever it gets released it'll be remixed with a weaker beat like most of 2Pac's stuff. Trapp also doctored this track and added a rap 2 it and re-titled it "Be The Realist." "Red Light" - i don't know nothing about this track...only that it's on one of Trapp's compilation albums. I don't know if it appears in it's original form or if Trapp doctored this one as well. It's on an album called something like Latino Gangsta Rappers or something. Half the album is Trapp's wack low budget trax and the other half is by real recording artists. I think this album came out in 1999. I'm sure that if u hear any 2pac + Biggie trax on the internet or mixtapes, they are probably doctored fake trax where the DJ/producer just took 2 different verses and put them on one song. I pretty sure they only recorded a few songs 2gether.
  21. Girls Ain't Nothing But Trouble Brand New Funk Parents Just Don't Understand I Think I Can Beat Mike Tyson I Sleep Much Better (In Someone Else's Bed) Billy Ocean feat. FP+JJ Summertime Ring My Bell The Things That U Do (RARE) Boom! Shake The Room I'm Looking For The One (To Be With Me) I Wanna Rock Can't Wait To Be With You (RARE - dosen't feature JJ+FP) Shy Guy (Diana King - FP cameo) Men In Black Just Cruisin' Gettin' Jiggy Wit It Just The Two of Us Lovely Daze (RARE - dosen't feat JJ+FP) Miami Boy You Knock Me Out (Tatyana Ali feat. 22. Yeah, i'll easily pop in an old skool or 90's CD...but i gotta force myself 2 put in any of the new CDs i've got. I got Dialated Peoples, Pitch Black, etc...and even tho' they are good, they don't cut it 4 me the way music used 2. Young kids don't have any reason 2 be interested in old skool Hip-Hop so u can't really blame them. It's not like they get exposed 2 it 2 often. A few will stumble upon it and start getting in2 it, but that's about it.
  23. While i'm not a big fan of their's, i think it's safe 2 say that they have stayed pretty true 2 what they've always been about which i believe is the key 2 their success just as any artist from the old skool who is still around these days...Fresh Prince, L.L. Cool J, etc. Alot of old skool cats try 2 keep new stuff comin' but it's not always on the level we expect...M.C. Hammer and Rob Base + DJ EZ-Rock for instance have relased music in the last few years and in my opinion, it is good, but not always on the level their old stuff waz. I welcome that stuff anyday over any of 2days Ludacrises, Chingys, Eminems, Jay-Zs tho.'
