  1. Dude, you totally skip any mention of "Candy Paint." I am usually not a person to fall straight off a beat....but seriously that beat is one of the best to ride to...plus for once Swizz's voice is just right and not annoying with the hype background vocals...and that girl who does the one part of the chorus has such a nice voice....That track has to be mentioned just for those points alone...
  2. The way I see it is that CD's are like cassettes, cassettes are like records. They will be replaced. If I were to speculate, I'd imagine that HUB's of music (connected to a database online, probably the same one you access on your computer today) within shopping centers would simply allow you to purchase, on the go, by connecting your MP3 (or whatever music standard) player to the machine. Think of an ATM and then you probably just swipe your credit card or insert cash after selecting what artists you want. It would be a way to allow people to get the music when in a shopping mood, and also if your under 18 use cash to purchase the music, rather than credit cards only online at home. Regarding record labels, they will always be around in one form or another as long as the music industry exists. Record labels are marketing companies at the core, and whether its with advertisements on the internet, special offers, or premium co-branding with shopping centers (like Walmart), those tasks are not to be left to the artists. Marketing needs to be done by professionals with the only exception possible being if the artist is already established at a high level (i.e. Will Smith). Even then, the product can receive a boost with proper marketing. Interscope could have easily brought Will's album to platinum status with "Tell Me Why" as the second single, and then "Party Starter" as a third.
  3. 1.) SO there's a resurgence in "HIP HOP" and I stress "HIP HOP" over rap in the past...anything from Hip Hop is Dead, to Hip Hop Lives, to Kingdom Come...To TROTM...To True Magic... I mean everyone is on board against the "gangsta rap."...It's like the cool thing now to diss gangsta rap and try and be different. 2.) Everyone and I mean everyone and their mom in Hip Hop is professing how Hip Hop has to show a positive image and should change its ways. The "Cool Thing" is to be cleaner...(stress the -er lol) more socially aware.... 3.) Rappers are finally giving Will respect...Redman?!? a couple months ago said he looks up to Will...Peedi Peedi (even if you don't like him) did a lot in showing respect for Will in BNF2k7.... 4.) Will is the most powerful name in showbusiness. Period. Top Grossing Actor. He is a household name MORE THAN EVER. 5.) He's had enough time since his last album (2 years is a good interval). 6.) Every summer people get a refresher from "Summertime" lol (I HAD to put that in...) 7.) Will has never had to change in his message, and he was saying what Nas said in "Hip Hop is Dead" 2 years earlier with "Wish I woulda" and "Lost & Found" Will HAS to be sitting back and laughing...I mean it's like a street corner preacher who says the SAME thing every day and people walk by him just mocking him...and now EXACTLY the movement he PLEADED for is happening....or at least its the "in" thing to do...which even if you think guys like Master P are just trying to capitalize on....You have an HONEST leader in Will...all he has to do is turn on the mic. And that's it. He can finally make the changes he wanted for years now that people are on board. We just need someone who is 100% sincere...and when hasn't Will been so about Hip Hop?
  4. wow, i never expected that type of performance, like it's an actual performance with jeff and will working off each other...don't get me wrong, it ain't like I thought they couldn't do it, just when I see performances on tv from rappers, it's all this "jeezy ad-libbing" that is pointless... well done
  5. I was about to be a smarta$$ and list the full tracklisting to Young Joc's cd...and you beat me to the punch. ah. :sipread:
  6. you're talking of 300,000 $15 CD's (some priced at 20) Ya, it sucks how interscope dropped the ball with his album promotion including the follow-up single to switch... but I mean you're asking alot of people to buy cd's of something they already had...and it would be even tougher to go and promote a two-year-old album for the unaware to buy...
  7. hmmm...its a tough track.. I don't know...I like it...I guess it's just showing his talent doesn't encompass being that fast outside of the booth when you can't revise piece by piece.. but that doesn't mean he's real bad. I think alot of it is Peedi unable to do what FP can (could?) do...which is go that fast. Yet, he wanted to "channel" FP for the song.
  8. I totally agree. The cheesy factor came into play wayyy too much...I saw it at the local theatre in a college town and we (students who possibly are just biased generally...we got a week left lol) were laughing at serious points in the movie. I realized this movie was created as if it was a theatrical play on broadway..only there would such over-the-top emotions would be accepted as sincere. it was still fun though, just not the best of the series I believe.
  9. I really like how throughout the album you'll hear the radio...and it's legit Philadelphia/New Jersey, as I can tell what stations he's going between in that order to get from the old rock...to the pop...to WJJZ Smooth Jazz 106.1 lol I also definitely knew the rest to that one car advertisement "shouting" out loud lol... "area by storm is BACK"....."Cherry Hill Triplex off of route..." wow..a little overboard... *ok so maybe i've played this cd for the last few days nonstop* :wickedwisdom:
  10. as jeff says at the end of brand new funk 2k7... "maybe there's hope" :dj:
  11. when I heard him on mixtapes ...i was not a fan...i disliked his songs..."stay true" was the first I heard from him...and I just really disliked his rapping... but i've seen him in interviews and he carries himself better than any rapper in the game today. he'll wear a suit if he should, he'll sacrifice street slang for descriptive explanations in interviews...and this now... seriously, if there is ever a way to at least make me revisit a rapper i initially swore off, it's showing the unbelievable respect he shows not only to the industry but his consumers...
  12. if anything it promoted the leaks as the torrent sites are getting hit up for it.
  13. Will Smith and Nasir Jones. that's all that needs to be said. period.
  14. ya I don't know who leaked it but its available all over the net now.... early leaks kill album sales :shakehead:
  15. how did you all get it so early?
  16. WHYYYY do you gotta bring that up about my man, Poison Ivy? his legacy is so much more but this sound bite will live on forever :shakehead:
  17. Hey Jeff, I just wanted to say thanks for continuing to inject soul into hip hop. Every track I get my hands on from the new album just feels more and more like a feel-good album, something that I miss. There's a place for serious talk, but times you just need fun and the music behind the lyrics is one-of-a-kind when you're on the track. So now that you've "Returned" you should be here to stay and get albums out as often as possible :-) I'm just kidding; good luck with the sales but I know in the end you make good music for good music's sake, and as long as that idea lives, hip hop will too. Best Wishes, Bob N.
  18. Alot of psycho-analysis of the two boys who killed at Columbine points to one thing that could have made the copycats worse: them getting their story, their way, at the reporters before the authorities took control. Alot of kids who are troubled can see someone who seems almost heroic in his infamous profile all over the TV's. I believe the video will only inspire as he wished. They should have at least gave some time to let emotions simmer, for the simple sake of the families. And in response to AJ, I strongly doubt the right person in the authorities made the call because they really have protocol (as spelled out after Columbine) to not release documents so early, so to quell the sensationalism. I really do feel that a disturbed individual on this platform can only ignite the possibility of copycats. I think no harm would have been done in concealing the tape for some time, allowing families to view, and maybe in a few years releasing the footage. I mean why do we hear so little of the 20-some school shootings since Columbine? I believe the authorities have done a good job in not giving the offenders the platform they so desparately seak.
  19. I posted this on my facebook and felt it was worth re-posting here, just my thoughts: So we all are trying to cope/help others cope with the events of Monday at Virginia Tech. And yes, our curiosity is one that would want to consume any information about the killer and his motives. We naturally have an urge to "solve the case" on our own. Yet, someone at NBC should have shown discretion with what they released to the public. And by discretion I mean let the authorities decide what would be permissible to share with the public. The killer sent NBC headquarters a video/photo/letter package that described his motives in an attempt to portray himself as a martyr for the socially oppressed. As in he meticulously compiled something he wanted the general public to see. As in NBC did exactly what he wanted by sharing the contents of his package to the general public. ....? Yes, NBC did give the authorities the original contents, but only after they made a copy and let the public see it. Why? Ratings? Stupidity? The killer even references the two boys who committed the Columbine attacks. He spoke of them as legends. He did this to "create a new generation" of sorts of followers. He says so himself. This man, who knew exactly what he was doing enough so to premeditate the whole thing, wanted, wished, hoped, and obviously expected that the need to get the scoop, get the ratings would lead NBC to releasing this package to the public. He did what the two boys at Columbine never could, which was releasing his story, his way, to the public immediately. The authorities who covered the Columbine Massacre purposely took time to release documents so as not to add fuel to the flame of sensationalists. The two boys at Columbine wanted copycats but the instances were staggered thankfully to smart moves by the authorities as to not raise these kids to a higher status so quickly. Now the probability of a copycat is so much more likely than ever before. NBC has only enlarged the problem, as now those who need help will see a figure of infamy to latch onto. I am personally going to send a letter to NBC and I do not know what else but I urge you to show your contempt with their decision to only facilitate the killer's intentions. I believe firmly in my heart that NBC's lack of discretion will directly result in a family's loss some point within the near future. It's sad because we are talking about business professionals who made the completely immoral decision to release the documents almost immediately. And for those who say we have a right to information, yes I agree, but there are cases in emergencies where the government must make the decision to not allow a sensitive situation only become more dangerous. Eventually, over time, as it becomes easier to step back from the situation, yes, the package should be open to the public. And what about the families, the friends who just lost a loved one? Now they see a killer get his wish, an infamous picture of his devilish profile all over the news and no filter to stop vulnerable, depressed young adults from absorbing his deceptive diction and following his ways. The prospect of this fame and the knowledge now that the media will allow for such hype to follow in its wake uninhibited only becomes a greater attraction to anyone who identifies with the killer's thoughts. It upsets me that a company with such power, the power of communication, would not realize its social responsibility to not exacerbate a very volatile and upsetting situation.
