  2. I took a minute to process the incident and the night in general before posting on here, it hit home for personal reasons, that I’ll explain, and it also took me a while to try and understand what developed and why. After deliberation, obviously violence is never the answer. It’s inexcusable, but, it’s also understandable based on what has been revealed to us in recent months and years. I saw a broken man, at his breaking point, that’s lived pretty much flawlessly over nearly four decades in the public eye. After reading WILL, it opened my eyes to that lack of acceptance Will has always had, and his strive to ‘put right’ what he got wrong as a kid. Namely, his inaction when his father would abuse his mother, both physically and mentally. I believe this played a part in the spur of the moment decision to act when he felt his wife was attacked. Another thing that came to mind is his obsession to not fail, think back to when Sheree divorced Will, and he refused because ‘I don’t get divorced’. He was willing to stay in a marriage he wasn’t happy in because of his commitment to the decision he made. Fast forward to the ‘Entanglement’ and we have a carbon copy of the fight to save his marriage, that got turned into memes and internet trends, namely of Will crying when emotional speaking of his wife’s affair with someone he’d brought into his home to help. I also believe Will becomes so engrossed in roles that he wants to embody what Richard Williams stands for in terms of defence towards his wife and children, and with them all being women, it’s overlapped into Wills personal life. Not just with Jada and his kids, but with the cast and crew of the movie, also. Now, you’re Will Smith, you’ve made the decision to stand by your wife and forgive her sleeping with another man, almost having the acceptance because she was facing her own demons. I do have my opinion on Jada and what damage she may be causing to Will, but in this instance, you have to take it at face value that he chose to forgive and move on, so we should to. You get to a point when Jada opens up about her autoimmune disease that results in Alopecia, and in her darkest moments dealing with her hair loss, she had suicidal thoughts and intentions, but managed to pluck up the courage to eventually embrace the situation and use it as fuel to encourage other sufferers of the disease. It’s important to remember that it goes much further than just simple vanity. As a husband myself, and being married to a woman that suffers with mental health, namely Agoraphobia, I’ve witnessed the lows that nobody else sees, I’ve witnessed the brave face that everybody else thinks is natural, and I’ve also seen the small innocuous comments, that the majority would brush off, bring her entire world crashing down faster than what seems imaginable. But it happens. Now, put yourself in the shoes of Will, sweeping the awards season, a favourite to achieve his first Oscar, an award he’s been openly chasing for two decades since his first nomination. You’re on top of the world, embracing the moment. This is the best your career could ever be, the pinnacle. Someone then makes a joke in poor taste, about the women you love, on what’s supposed to be the biggest night of your career, and you glance over to your wife and she isn’t impressed. I believe Will unlocked some inner demons he’d buried writing WILL, I believe he’s reeling from being humiliated about the ‘Entanglement’, I believe he’s bitten his tongue on many occasion when the names of his wife and children got dragged through the dirt in front of millions. In that moment, I believe Will thought, it doesn’t matter what I do in my career, I’ll always be that scared little boy that didn’t stop his Mother from getting beat. And he said, no more. As a side note, it’s important to understand what triggers are when it comes to mental health, and what you’re husband may know will be damaging to you, even though it seemed an innocent off the cuff comment. I’m sure Chris Rock was unaware, and Will could have handled in a more calm and well matured manner than resorting to violence, especially as it’s completely overshadowed what was a richly deserved and overdue Oscar victory for what was a phenomenal performance. I congratulate Will on his Oscar win, and I really hope if he is struggling with his life and is overwhelmed by what’s being asked of him, or what he feels is being asked of him, that he seeks the help to recover and get back to being himself. It was difficult to watch someone I’ve admired for so long hit rock bottom on the same night he reached his highest point, but it was also a stark reminder that we expect superhuman actions out of people who are just as human as the people they entertain. Sorry it dragged on LOL

  3. Wills Instagram post is great. Using comedy to test the water. Glad to see 99% positive comments, fans telling him they love him and come back. Great to see. Hopefully he feels comfortable easing back into the public eye now.

  4. Honestly, as much as i hate the situation, the memes are pretty funny. But yeah, the media need to take it easy now, they are interviewing every celebrity about it to try and get another headline. I'm disappointed in some celebrity takes on it. Amy schumer said it was really upsetting to see Will slap Chris Rock, then ive seen another story saying one of her jokes about the Alec Baldwin shooting accident wasn't allowed. Why does she think a joke about someone getting killed can be ok? Anyway, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Will made a mistake, we all make mistakes, let it go.

  5. I agree with a lot of opinions here. I don't think Will is doing good mentally. It was like a bi-polar moment for him. He's seen laughing at the joke to then slapping Chris and shouting at him. Next he gets the win and then cries and says something that he's a "vessel of love" and "love makes you do crazy things". Dude - you just slapped the host of the show because Jada wasn't having it. Listen, I get defending your wife but that was such an instant response to Jada. It was uncalled for. The joke wasn't even that bad. It's comedy. So now if we go to comedy shows and don't like a joke we can slap the comedian? It's bizarre. I get that it's an isolated incident but I think it was trigger by some deep wounds and toxicity in his life. He needs some help and healing. I haven't read the book but it seems like their are some deep rooted issues. We're obviously all people on the outside watching but part of me thinks their marriage has run it's course. He was humiliated on the RTT with Jada where she justified her actions in front of the world to make a private matter turn into public display of marriage therapy in which she profited off of it. She had an affair with their son's friend. That's crazy. So because the traditional definition of marriage doesn't apply to their "open marriage" makes what she did okay? And now they're going to have another episode that they're going to profit from from all the views. I could do without the pomp and circumstance. Honestly, I'm just turned off by Will and have been for a few years now. Maybe at his core he's still the guy we all grew up loving from JJFP, FPOBA to the early 2000s but he doesn't have the same appeal to me. He's a business and a brand and the one thing I want from him - he doesn't sell anymore - which is music. I'm not into Will Smith the character, the box office star and hollywood elite. He's just not relatable. I feel the same way about Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson too. I dont care and never cared about: his movies his marriage and how open it is his kids his snapchat his instagram his book (well maybe some parts of it) bel-air reboot hollywood life his politics his youtube channel his motivation advice his workout routine selling me products (bel-air merch, JUST water...etc) ...etc Anything with music - count me in.

    New Music

Yeah, I want new music to be a tightly contained project. I'm not saying his family isn't musically talented. Obviously they are, but I have no desire to hear them on a new album.

Indeed he should make some new music but I prefer if he leaves his weird family out of it and go play with Jeff instead.

  14. I think the reason for this is that Will's actions are directly related to the Oscars. They want to save face. The dealings of those other people, while vile and long term, aren't directly related to the Oscars. No one is associating their behavior with the Oscars like they are Will's. That's just my guess at reasoning.

  15. He's definitely got some great content, it would also be a great way for him to vent. Everyone is talking about him right now (MIB was playing in my local supermarket) so i think people would be more interested in what he has to say right now. Its the whole, no publicity is bad publicity thing. It would be great for him to spend time with Jeff, JL and Charlie etc. From the book, those guys seem to of always been such a positive impact on his life. He was like his old self when he did that zoom thing with them in lockdown.

  16. Jim, I get everything you are saying and I think a lot of people feel the same way. I think it is worth getting the audiobook of Will though - the first 10 chapters are all about the formation and success of JJFP and a lot of stuff we never knew about - I think as a music fan you would really enjoy that section of the book at least. Behind the scenes of summertime - the making of And in this corner etc, the return with Men In Black.

Heading to London soon to make sure we get there in plenty of time for the show. Will is already in London and Jeff has confirmed he is on his way. Should be a great show! I'll get some pictures and upload them on here :-)

  19. Rest in Peace to Super Producer/Composer Carl "Chucky"Thompson, I used to play keys when I was in middle school and I think that it was his keys and lush arrangements that set him apart from the rest of "The Hitmen" on the scene in the late 90s. It was not only lush, it was live instrumentation, intricate background vocals, and literally this man helped to create "MY LIFE" (Mary J. Blige), timeless hits for The Notorious B.I.G. , introduced amazing new artists like: NONCHALANT, FRANKIE, EMILY KING and others. His music moved me then, and made me wanna take songwriting seriously. I'll miss this brother and praying peace for his remaining family.

I talked to Jamie and was coming over here a while back but my sister died and my world turned upside down. How is everyone???????? I hope everyone is staying safe in this covid-19 situation. And hope this is in the right forum .

  21. I've spent an inordinate amount of time watching reaction videos on YouTube. Always starts off with "Ok Will Smith..." Quickly followed by "Okay, Will Smith!" Always ends with "Okaaaaaaay, Will Smith!!!!!! Bars!!! Facts!!! He snapped!!!"

  22. You’ve gotta move with the times Ted. Everything evolves to cater to a current audiences preferences. It’s not ignorance, it’s just not what they like or have even heard. If anything the older heads who don’t even attempt to listen to new school stuff before branding it trash, are the ignorant ones.

  25. Come on, man. Enjoy it. You've got six posts with negativity, life is too beautiful for that. I'll also point out that those artists he has collaborated with in the past were not of his era either, with the exception of Biz or Slick Rick and a handful of others. He's collaborated with people outside his norm throughout his career and I can't complain about this choice and the messege. Let Will be... different. Dope track.

  27. This has me mad. He sometimes talks about how he's not appreicated in Hip-Hop the way he should be. He had a place in this, and he walked away. His partner in music was part of this, and he walked away. His peers, many who have shown respect for him, were involved in this, and he walked way. This was a one-night event/commitment, and he walked away. This could have played a big part in his comeback in pop culture, and he walked away. Him and Jeff have the first Grammy for Hip-Hop. The slap didn't really bother me. This bothers me. I can only hope that the Grammy's performance sparks interest in Hip-Hop culture and music and that we see more events surrounding it and that he gets his butt in order and participates.

  31. I do think popping up at one of Jeff's shows would be a good idea. That way he's in a position where he's supporting someone instead of making it about himself. Jeff is the one person who has been entirely in his corner when it comes to the press. I feel like that kind of crowd would be in his corner the most, too. Footage of it would get around, making it a special low key moment. From the start I've been saying music is the healthiest playing field for him right now.

  32. I don't like to say much as I'm just an outsider looking in, but that doesn't look like a healthy relationship at all. Will looks completely broken and Jada comes off as really abusive in that clip.

  33. I think him resigning from the Academy is the right thing to do. It doesn’t really mean much to be part of it. It’s not that important to his career. I don’t think his career is over. It will take some time for people to forget about this. The video and the incident will probably keep popping up for the rest of his career. The only way for this entire issue to be over is to have a conversation with Chris Rock. It doesn’t have to be in front of cameras. Just talk privately and clear the air.

  34. I've kinda given up hope on music at this point. I'm sick of the half-ass attempts over the last few years with these weirdo songs. He does a song with DJ Khaled a few years ago and it's for the kids? I mean c'mon. Get Lit was another weird song. The best thing he did was that freestyle video on Youtube but of course that was like 1-2 minutes long and never released as a song. Oh and that Joyner remix that he jumped on. Will has such a team around him when it comes to video production and getting quick ad money off of Youtube clicks that I wish the same energy was there for music. I agree with AJ - nobody wants to hear new Will Smith with modern music production. If he's gonna return to music - he's gotta actually write and rap bars. Don't do it for record sales or awards - rap because it's who you really are (as opposed to being an actor and pretending to be a character) and you have plenty to say.

  35. Don’t know what to think about this. I’m not surprised they are doing a Red Table talk about it, kinda saw it coming. I wonder how it will play out. The only way this could really work is if they invited Chris Rock, sit down and have a openminded conversation. But then again, is it really necessary to do that publicly? Maybe they should handle it in private. But I guess that’s what society has come to.

  39. What a wonderful reunion! Touching and emotional, with great behind-the-scenes footage. A fantastic gift for all the fans. It's amazing to see how many people and generations this show has touched. And after all these years, it feels 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' is more popular than ever. So good to see them back together! The James Avery tribute was perfect. A beautiful moment where words were not necessary to express how they feel about his loss. Very emotional so them all crying The Janet part was also a big one. I'm glad Will and she could have an honest conversation, and that she could express how she has felt during all this time to his face, the pain she says she's gone through. Hopefully they have a better relationship from now on. And I also loved that she asked to join the rest of the cast too, it was very nice to see them together. But I'm wondering, why wasn't Alfonso there when she entered the set? It was strange that he wasn't with the rest in that moment. Maybe it was because that part was filmed at a different time, who knows. But I'm hoping it's not because he didn't want to see her. Anyway, at the end of the day, it's their business. I also feel they didn't give enough time to Joseph. It would have been interesting to hear him talk about hot he got the role too, like the others. Or to hear him share some stories from his experience on the show. I'm definitely watching it again. It brings back so many great memories.. What a legendary show!!

  43. Yes! This is perfect for the end credits. DJ Khaled is mad annoying, so I'm glad that he definitely took a back seat on this. The music definitely has a late 90's/early 2000's feel to it. The way he says "never had a friend like me" feels like he borrowed from 2Pac's "Never Had A Friend Like Me." I get the feeling his going to let Aladdin be a vehicle to finally get his own music out.

  44. Logic wouldn't be my first choice either but the track is pretty good. Way better than songs like "Get Lit" or "Live It Up". I don't think that Will's gonna drop an album though. Unfortunately Logic is a little corny nowadays lyric wise. But he also put out some good stuff in the past. I would recommend listening to his first album "Under Pressure" or the first three Young Sinatra-Mixtapes (2010-2013). Second album was aight too but the rest of his discography isn't for me.
